Xbox One reveal viewer figures among highest of all time

Did you watch the Xbox One reveal? So did everyone else. Obviously.

A post on Xbox Wire boasts of "record-breaking viewership" of the reveal, with more than 8.45 million views in 24 hours.

Apparently, this rivals "one of the top-most concurrent streamed events of all time".

Microsoft's streaming partner Akamai said the stream nearly doubled peak traffic records, surpassing records sent by set by events like the 2010 World Cup, Royal Wedding in 2011 and 2012 election night.

Nielsen reported over 1.73 million viewers watched the reveal on Spike TV, and Twitter said it was the most talked about non-sports TV program that day, nearly equalling the NBA Playoffs.

Since the Xbox One was revealed - did you read all about that, by the way? - the Internet's gone bonkers with equal delight and horror. The creepy always-on Kinect is causing waves, but the console's cloud-powered grunt is mighty appealing. There's a lot of concern over Microsoft's new indie policies, though.
