Conker creator hints at upcoming Wii U project

Sunday, 26th May 2013 23:39 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Gory Detail, a heretofore mobile exclusive studio founded by former Rare staffer Christopher Seavor, seems likely to reunite the Conker creator with Nintendo platforms.

“Wii U devkits ain’t cheap and it’s lookin likely Gory Detail is gonna need three at some point this year,” he said on Twitter.

Seavor’s Tweet has, predictably, triggered anticipation for a spiritual follow-up if not an actual sequel to the Conker games for which he became famous; the irreverent platformer was Rare’s N64 swansong and has a cult following among Nintendo fans, especially now that the developer has been acquired by Microsoft.

Seavor designed Conker’s Bad Fur Day as well as serving as project lead, scriptwriter and even voice actor for the eponymous squirrel.

Gory Detail released its first title, Parashoot Stan, in April. Seavor’s Twitter bio suggests the studio is working on a second mobile title in addition to the mysterious upcoming Wii U game.

Thanks, Destructoid.

Rare isn’t making the game, Gory Detail would be. And that is founded by one of Rares former guys, it is his new studio. I doubt they would be able to get the liscence to do Conker 2, but maybe it could be purchased…that part I don’t know.

Anyways still a welcome addition to WiiU game catalogue.

That and I would think Nintendo would be giving away dev kits to spure on WiiU dev/pub.

How can there be a new Conker if the Ip is owned by Rare? If they can buy it, sure and that would be great for Nintendo. But if they can’t buy it from them….they can’t make a new one then, right?

It’s not going to be a new Conker game.

@PS3Fanboy, you’re not very smart if you think one game, we know nothing about, would “save” the Wii U. And on top of that, it wouldn’t be a new Conker game as Nintendo doesn’t own the rights.

If Nintendo does need “saving” it would come in the form of games like Super Smash Bros U, 3D Mario U, Metroid Prime 4, Mario Kart U, Xenoblade 2, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, and so on.

No “one” game can save a console. A console needs many games, like all the ones I listed above to push units.

They aren’t they are expensive as ever. Nintendo hasn’t gotten the memo the WiiU isn’t doing well and need as much devs as they can get.

Original Halo on the Xbox would disagree.

No, very unlikely to be a new Conker in the vein of BFD. Nintendo were apparently very reluctant to advertise the original (Nintendo Power deliberately did not as much as acknowledge it, let alone promote), and in several territories it was THQ that acted as publisher for the N64 game. –

Have a link to an interview with Seavor all about Conker :) http://gamikia.com/interview-with-chris-seavor-conker/

Not to mention that Rare and MS have rights to it.

@8 the article here does mention that it could be a spiritual sequel, but that’s true too.

I would absolutely love a game that is similar to Conker, the whole satire cartoony platformer. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about Conker’s or a similar game. :P

They should do a Jet Force Gemini in that style. It could be really cool and hugely fun to have Juno and Vela (modern take on their appearance based on their original looks) and the dog, Lupus running satire over sci-fi! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i0zMEYmO4E
