Unity will be available on open-source platform Tizen

Unity Technologies have announces that its multi-platform engine will be available for the Linux-based Tizen OS which launches on devices later in the year.

David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies, believes the two products are heading in the same direction, saying, "Unity and Tizen have a lot in common in that they both aim to make the creation and the deployment of games and other apps as easy as possible for developers."

It's anticipated that the open-source Tizen OS will "provide another excellent avenue" for many mobile developers.

Unity tools tailored to Tizen are currently in development and expected to launch not long after Tizen devices are available, with some Unity created games expected at launch of the OS. Developers will be able to publish games in the Tizen store in late 2013.
