Wii U: under 40,000 consoles sold across America in April – rumour

Monday, 20th May 2013 12:49 GMT By Dave Cook

Nintendo’s Wii U sale woes could be continuing, according to a batch of allegedly leaked NPD sales figures currently doing the rounds. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has suggested that the numbers are mostly accurate. If true, then only 38,000 Wii U consoles were sold across North America in April.

The above exchange saw Pachter stating that all but the 3DS NPD figures seemed accurate, although as nothing has been confirmed yet, please do treat his as rumour for now.

Cheers Nintendo Life and NeoGAF.

I think the trend of terrible sales for Wii U will continue until Pikmin 3 comes out. Then there will be a small surge until Mario 3D and Mario Kart’s release (Sorry but Wonderful 101 is NOT gonna sell around the GTA month).

Come Q4, there is gonna be a truly bloody battle with newly released PS4 and Xbox 720 vs Mario Kart + Mario 3D supported Wii U.

The Gamecube should of honestly been their last console. They got lucky with the Wii, and because of that they became cocky like Sony did with the PS3.

I’d say it was the 3DS that suffered from the cockiness (Due to DS and Wii’s success) which they remedied pretty soon. With Wii U, they did try to make things right BUT they were NOT prepared for HD generation. They realized what Sony and MS found out 6-7 years ago: Making games for HD consoles is MUCH harder than PS2 / Xb titles.

Expect them rather on iOS/Android and PC. Consoles are doomed, the Wii U is just the first final one released. The way too expensive Xbox 720 and PS4 with way too expensive games will follow that same path… Soon…

Consoles are too expensive? You might want to check out the prices of PC video cards.

@6: The problem is not the technology. It’s the lack of compelling games. I fear that now may be too late. They needed the heavy first-party guns at launch time, not a year later.
