Ouya to host public booth in a parking lot down the road from E3

Saturday, 18th May 2013 21:51 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Those who aren’t attending E3 this year and will be in the LA area, can still get their hands on Ouya as the team is hosting a public event for the console down the road from the Los Angeles Convention Center.

According to a press release sent out to Ouya developers by head of developer relations Kellee Santiago, the team will have everything on hand for developers interested in showing off their Ouya game to the masses.

This includes the console, controllers and TV. The demonstrations will have hourly slots and will run the entire duration of E3, which is being held June 11-13.

Originally slated for release on June 4, the Ouya console will release on June 25, and it will be available for purchase in the Canada, US and the UK through Amazon, Best Buy, GAME, GameStop, and Target, and on OUYA.tv for $99.99. Additional controllers will retail for $49.99.

Thanks, Joystiq.

The Ouya is a fantastic little unit, particularly if you have any indie development aspirations. It’s a bit of a shame they won’t have a proper E3 presence.

Wow. Ok. Best of luck to them, but I can’t help but feel this is like some guy on his laptop playing down the street from The Prodigy, Justice & Underworld. Apart from some hipsters who may find it ironic to visit the booth, I can’t imagine who would choose it over the main event.

They would of been smart to allow input via PS3 & xBox 360 controllers. Perhaps making this an Advance version at $69.99 without any controllers. Sure a few would pick it up seeing next gen aren’t using current controllers. SURE do not look forward to getting back up to a controller each with ten in the house and two guest ones.

Kinda reminds you of Microsoft who are revealing their next-gen console in a tent.

I like how people are judging the decision to have the booth in a parking lot without knowing why the Ouya team is doing so.

@15 – Because it makes it easier for them to drive away in the unmarked van they will be selling the console from when the police ask why they don’t have permits.

@16: Obviously the Ouya is just a front to sell puppies on the sly.
