Xbox Infinity: rumour provides moniker for Durango

Friday, 10th May 2013 02:16 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Tired of calling it NeXtBox and Xbox 720? The console formerly known as Durango may well rejoice in a new soubriquet: Xbox Infinity.

The name has been kicked around a few times over the past month, including as part of an image showing an infinity symbol logo, but a new report from the International Business Times cites anonymous sources for its confidence in the apellation.

The site’s sources also said that development kits have been distributed – which you can probably file under “the sky is blue”, as Microsoft will unveil its new machine on May 21, ahead of an expected holiday 2013 launch.

Xbox … Infinity. I like it. Thoughts?

Thanks, IGN.

Saw this image on Reddit Gaming a few weeks ago. Will it be Xbox Infinite or Infinity?

I would rather call it X-8. Xbox Infinite is too long of a word to use a few times a day (especially on reveal date + launch date)

    TL;DR: X-8

    Or just “Infinite”.

Sorry, “Infinity” not “Infinite”. BioShock on the brain.

I think the name is right and the logo is nice too. It’s pretty clean although it is really small.

Can’t wait to see 21 May so Sony fanboys could shut their traps. Can’t wait just for that. I want Sony fanboy tears.

    The logo sells it.

A subtle way to take a dig at console numbering too. But they’re locking themselves in; where do you go after infinity? At least with 720, there was still room for improvement, you know?

Has everyone forgotten already where redirects you to?

^ This doesn’t have to be the console name, though.

It could be a product/feature/service name of something related to it.

For example, it could be a name for something to do with combining the supposed new DVD-less 360 with the new console to get full BC. Or connecting the console to your cable box to act as a fully functioning DVR. Or maybe even slotting some of these new 8″ Windows 8 tablets directly into the console for some reason.

Its a great name, nobody will be confused between 360 and infinity, so its a great choice.

Whatever it’s called, if it still charges for a gold account it can kiss my @$$ x infinity.

    * From someone who loved Xbox, has had one for 6 years, and only got a PS3 last year, Sony are just showing you up Microsoft, stop charging for the bread and water of online games.

That logo reminds me of the new Rare logo. Not a good sign. Sorry. I love my 360 but this doesn’t look or sound interesting (Then again, “Kinect” didn’t but they sold a shitload of them without any functional games).

I kinda like that name and hope they go with it. Since they’re trying to be the all in one box the moniker suits them. Infinite possibilities…ok now prove it Microsoft. I wanna see games that rival SONY’s awesome first party.
