WOW! Jade Raymond is hot! :D Why don’t she start modeling! :D

    #5 2 years ago
  6. FinalStar

@2 Sure. First off, she looks noticably different these days. Second, I believe I’m allowed to ask why a website that is ridiculously pedantic in regards of pointing out if their writers paid for a drink themselves or not is so sloppy in this (certainly no less important) instance.

@3 I actually believe that some things like getting names right and showing accurate portraits do matter in the press and even on the internet. And it’s not like there aren’t any more current pictures around.

Edited to add: I would complain about this if it was concerning other personalities as well, so it’s not a Jade only thing. Let’s say e.g. using a Rooney picture of the pre-hair-transplant-era now would be ridiculous as well unless you wanted to specifically illustrate that point.

@4: That’s nothing on her pencil shavings. Have you seen her pencil shavings? All that discarded pencil material is so sexy, the way it shows more lead as she strips it off is just scandalous. If there’s one thing to take away from these articles about her, it’s her sexy pencil shavings!

@6: Fair point, I was mostly joking around since I’m very serious about other subjects that seem to me like they matter more. There was some argument in the first part of the Jade Raymond interview over viewing her for what she’s done at the company versus viewing her for her attractiveness. I think the latter part is where things get tricky, because without saying more, caring about the recency of her picture is something usually not done toward men.

I’m suddenly remembering the E3 presentations for Squeenix where a female translator ended up getting fake nudes and hentai done of her despite not even being named.

    #9 2 years ago
  10. Samoan Spider

@6 Yeah, I take your point but I think #9 explains it pretty well. Taking her accomplishments at face value, she is a successful person and her looks take a back seat entirely. This I think is why an out of date picture matters so little and I’m also certain that there are stock photo’s of many industry faces rocking around that get used and I’ve not once seen the age of the photo questioned.

    #10 2 years ago
  11. FinalStar

I’ve actually had the opportunity to interview Jade myself a few day ago and I can attest to the fact that Ubisoft is quite aware of the whole attractiveness thing these days – I was even asked to avaid any questions in that regard. Fair enough, since I wanted to focus on the business side anyway, but it leaves my a little surprised it came up in the video interview. Yet again, these interview snippets were done in March and maybe I was asked not to in part of them? Who knows?

That said, that it’s true that she’s successful in her job because of her accomplishments, but let’s be honest: having the interview here in three 5-minute parts instead of one 15-minute-block and hyped this way is not just because oft that – her looks do take a front seat and that everybody knows her – which again is because Ubisoft shoved here in front of every camera in the AC days.

I agree that often stock photos are used, but e.g. a Molyneux of today looks just the way he did 10 years ago, so you often can’t really tell how old a picture probably is. Jade has changed quite a bit, though, as can be seen on the “brown” foto used to tease part 1.

And it’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine because for some reason, it did take quite a bit of nagging and effort to secure a new picture in print quality – just taking an old one clearly would have beeen much easier.

@15: A little warning about the content being NSFW would be nice. I don’t blame you because it’s easy to forget such things, but it’s important for people looking at the site in public or at work.

That said, I remember when that came out. I think it’s a testament to how people viewed the whole way the game and team were being presented, even if it was the fault of the gaming press or not justified.

Fuck. Me. I am all for “free speech” and all that, but, wow. That “comic” is insulting beyond words. Not only to Jade, but to the intellect as well – whether you are male OR female.

    #27 2 years ago
  28. DarkElfa

Meh, comedy is comedy, enough already with the politically correct garbage, it’s already ruining the US.

Is it appropriate, no, is it degrading, yes, do I care, not really because I had a laugh and moved on, everyone else should do the same unless you want to call CBS and complain about Janet’s nipple slip again.

Look at it this way, I’m sure Jade has seen that comic already a few times and then remembered, oh, this is the internet and went back to work. If you let the internet offend you, you might as well turn off your computer and go outside.

    #28 2 years ago
  29. YoungZer0

That comic must have been drawn by some rather pathetic individual. Really, how sad and insecure do you have to be to believe that just because someone models for MAXIM, she’s suddenly a whore who receives bukkake and gives free blowjobs?

    Fucking Child.

I’m the first guy to laugh my ass off about the rudest and crudest jokes, but this is no joke, this is a personal attack.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. salarta

@20: The artist that drew the comic later took it down after realizing just how serious such a thing is. People on the internet can be heartless, but mostly because they don’t understand the gravity of what they’re saying and doing. Being confronted with the potential consequences of their actions will often get people to wise up.

@25: … Jade Raymond is an actual person. This is a person who is trying to make a career and a living out of being in the video game industry. I really doubt Jade finds it fun for people to mistakenly think of her the same way people mistakenly think of the proper Lara Croft, as nothing more than a sex object with no other meaningful qualities or qualifications. I really, really doubt Jade wants “looked hot” to be the only thing she’s remembered for. A woman having her physical appearance complimented can be a good thing, but not if conversations are more about what nice boobs she has than how she contributed to putting out Assassin’s Creed, or worse, if she’s trying to discuss a serious industry subject and people blow her off because they think she’s only there for her looks.

    #30 2 years ago
  31. Stephany Nunneley

@28 Has nothing to do with being “politically correct.” I like “low brow” and comedy that’s a bit “blue” as much as anyone else. But I seriously doubt that was meant to be “comedy”, and more an interpretation of the artist’s opinion on the matter. Either way, it was gross.

    #31 2 years ago
  32. DarkElfa

Oh grow up Zero, it was an internet comic. Nobody needs you to white knight the damn thing and be a hero. So you were offended by it, big whoop, they’ll probably delete it.

Here’s an idea, why don’t you head for Google image and pull out your jousting lance for some of those poor actresses who people have photoshopped into nudes and porn.

Throwing a big fit over it and expressing your abject horror is just stupid and a complete waste of time because it will change nothing. They may remove it from this thread, but it will still be out there for everyone to see for the rest of time.

    #32 2 years ago
  33. DarkElfa

@31, I’m not saying it isn’t gross or unneeded, but I’m kind of beyond being shocked by things I see here or elsewhere, I’m just too used to it by now.

The internet has broken and desensitized me. :(

@30, and yet it’s still out there isn’t it. Again, not defending the comic, but the reactions to it are priceless and so heartfelt it make me wince a bit.

Yes, she’s a real person and yes she shouldn’t ever have to deal with something like that, but whether you disagree, hate or even YoungZer0 the damn thing, it’s part of being on the web. It’s an ugly part and I do wish it would leave but I’m not going to pretend that I can make that happen.

The internet is a collection of the best and worst of all of us and if you put yourself out there, you open yourself to both praise and ridicule. If you happen to be attractive, the results can obviously be even worse.

That is why I don’t care. The more attention you give a thing, the more you feed it.

    #33 2 years ago
  34. Stephany Nunneley

@33 I think we’ve all seen our fair share of worse – my eyes melted just yesterday over something I saw online :)But aiming something like this at her is undeserved IMO.

    #34 2 years ago
  35. DarkElfa

@34, Well, like I said, she’s probably long past seen this thing and moved on. I’m sure some friend in the office showed it to her and she went “Meh”, and went about her day.

I won’t be offended by it, but I will say that it doesn’t belong here. At least the artist had the decency to take it down, too bad his readers don’t have the same decency.

*edit* After reading up on this apparently Ubisoft threatened to sue the guy so maybe it got to her a little bit more, but still, it’s long over with anyways.

In the immortal words of Joe Garelli, “you can’t take something off the internet, it’s like trying to take pee out of a pool.”

Never underestimate the power of a semi-attractive woman on a group of nerds.

Kinda reminds me of playing WoW. If there was a woman around who was known to be better than a 4, she would have a third of the guild trying to do to her what those guys are doing in that comic.

It was really pretty unbelievable to watch. You’d think it was a stereotype, but it’s stone cold reality.

This is not me White Knight-ing. I’m the last guy to do the White Knight, don’t know how you could’ve missed that. I just don’t understand what’s funny about personally attacking a developer. Especially in this way.

@37 Well, then you dont understand humor. BTW, your reaction speaks volume. He calls you a White Knight (you ABSOLUTELY are) and then look at your response. YOU CARE TOO MUCH! This is the internet, horrible things will be said about anyone who is successful in any way. The key is to never let them (anyone) see you angry, because it only makes them troll more voraciously. The Internet. You’re doing it wrong.

@33: First off, as much as I have grown a dislike toward YoungZer0 (among other comments) for certain exchanges I’ve had with him, trying to turn his username into an exaggerated insult label is asinine. Second, that’s not how the internet nor business works. A person will end up putting themselves out there regardless due to their success. You can’t advance in these sort of careers without putting your name and face out there. Meanwhile, the internet is unforgiving and that is NOT a result of if you put yourself out there. Perfectly ordinary, innocent people have essentially had their lives ruined because of internet mob mentality, people that never wanted anything more than an ordinary job and an ordinary life.

And even if it did operate on an “If you put yourself out there then you run this risk” attitude, that does NOT mean we should encourage that behavior. It’s the same line of thought that leads to “Well, she wore a sexy bikini, that means she’s asking to be raped.” I understand if you take issue with that given the severity of rape, but that’s on par with what happens with things like that comic. It’s not raping Jade’s body, it’s raping her public image, which in turn could ruin her whole career if it went too far.

And also, no, Jade didn’t “just go meh” to the comic. I explicitly remember reading at the time that it freaked her out, she actually cried over it. A comic like that might, MIGHT be expected (but I still wouldn’t say encouraged) for someone like Kim Kardashian, but someone like Jade Raymond? No.

@39: There are definitely things that aren’t worth getting so worked up over. I’m guilty of doing that many times in the past over things that were (and are) ultimately inconsequential. This is not one of those times.

Jade has done nothing publicly to deserve that comic (which has been around a while, BTW). I think it was meant as satire on the use her obvious charisma to promote AC, but the artist quickly realized he had gone too far, and withdrew it (too late–internet, you know). It did upset Jade quite a bit, which makes the shame even greater.
