Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines get new fan patch

Tuesday, 7th May 2013 06:23 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, once one of the most broken games ever to see commercial release, has just been patched yet again by its talented and devoted fan base.

The classic Troika RPG is nine years old now, but is still being improved by a series of unofficial patches which are not only highly recommended but pretty much essential if you want to enjoy the game.

The latest release, v8.6, has a number of useful fixes and tweaks which probably don’t make much sense to those that haven’t tried the game yet. Let’s just say the words :fixed” and “corrected” are used multiple times.

In the Plus version of the game, which departs more daringly from Troika’s original (broken) vision, you’ll find plenty of “restored” and “improved” and “added” entries.

Grab the update here and see the full patch notes here. Vampire: The Masquerade is available via Steam.

Thanks, TruePCGaming.

The fan support for this game never ceases to amaze me. At this rate, there will always be a new patch for this game, doesn’t matter how far in the future we could be. Thankfully, it’s a great game. Broken as all hell but it was still a true RPG, not like the action-ified titles of this gen :(

If there is anything worth a kickstarter, it is the sequel of this game.

It was brilliant, emotional, had great music, visuals, story and atmosphere.

I often find truth in this — that the most ambitious and clever games tend to be also buggy because of their tremendous scale. And I’m always willing to put up with some bugs, and even to help the community fix them (I’ve released a couple of patch mods in my time). I hate the stink over bugs, really, as all it does is scare developers so that they have to think more small and mainstreamy.

Perhaps with the likes of KickStarter we could see something like this happen again, if the old Troika guys could get back together.

So many patches, yet no one addressed the terrible cutscenes.
