The Night of the Rabbit is the latest adventure from the German adventure whizzkids at Daedalic, posing the question: what if magic were real?

Just take a look at that gorgeous, hand-drawn art. The Night of the Rabbit has players guiding Jerry Hazelnut to become a real magician and “uncover the sinister mysteries of Mousewood”. By pointing and clicking, presumably.

The Night of the Rabbit is due on May 29, on Mac and PC; check out the first trailer and screens below.

Daedalic is unfortunately best known for a scandal involving some dodgy dealings at publisher Lace Mamba, but it has quite the back catalogue. It has a string of awards to its name thanks to Deponia, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout , The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav and The Whispered World, As well as TheNight of the Rabbit, it’s working on Memoria and Blackguards.

These guys were always absolutely brilliant at art and animation — it’s just story where they’ve fell short, sometimes. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with this one, as I’ve loved some of their adventures, but I’ve been put off by their more recent entries. (Deponia, for example, was just not very good and had themes I didn’t enjoy much.)

Dunno what Daedalic games you’ve played, but their animations have always been terrible, not surprising if you know that it’s mainly interns doing them and those have to follow instructions that limit fluid animations.
