Nintendo aware of hackers’ claim to have “reversed the Wii U drive authentication”

Tuesday, 30th April 2013 20:45 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Hackers have claimed to have “completely reversed the Wii U drive authentication, disk encryption, file system, and everything else needed for this next generation key”.

According to a report on CVG, these are the same hackers which made one of “the many Wii mod keys available,” but it has been unable to confirm it has indeed cracked Wii U.

Nintendo has said it’s aware of the claims, but so far it has received “no reports of illegal Wii U games nor unauthorized applications playable on the system while in Wii U mode.”

“Nintendo continuously monitors all threats to its products’ security and will use technology and will take the necessary legal steps to prevent the facilitation of piracy,” the firm said in a statement.

Nothing is fully protected anymore, is it?

Would be interesting if the Wii U had actually more than just 4 or 5 games (excluding Multi-Plats).

Not really a fan of the Wii U, but I sure hope Nintendo can catch these a-holes and send them to butt rape prison.

Nintendo can’t do much about piracy, it seems once its been cracked its out there. Going by how they ‘fought’ against Wii piracy all they will do is release a patch in the next system update that blocks it. But all unpatched consoles will still be hackable. And going by the Wii’s history with piracy that system update will be circumvented within a few weeks.
