Company of Heroes 2: Theater of War mode announced

Sega has announced Company of Heroes 2 will ship with a new mode called Theater of War.

This mode allows Relic Entertainment to tell different stories from the campaign in the form of single-player and multiplayer content. Solo players will go up enter battles of overwhelming odds and face AI commanders who possess unique playing styles. Theater of War's co-operative experience is being kept under wraps for now.

Launch missions will be taken from 1941, allowing players to choose either the Soviet Army or German forces. Relic promises to replicate some of the most famous encounters from this era across an array of locations, with each faction having nine unique missions to wade through.

"We get a lot of requests from fans to showcase specific conflicts from the war and it isn’t always possible to fit these into the campaign. Theater of War gives us the opportunity to deliver these new gameplay experiences to our fans," said Greg Wilson, producer on the project.

Game director Quinn Duffy added, "Theater of War acts as a perfect bridge between the game’s single and multiplayer content providing a high level of re-playability and helping to introduce traditionally solo players to the online elements of the game."

More Theater of War content will be added after Company of Heroes 2 releases on June 25th, including a pack reserved for those who pre-order the game.
