Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn weather will only affect fishing
Square Enix went to all the trouble of putting dynamic weather in Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, but it doesn’t actually do very much.
In a live Q&A session transcribed on the MMO’s forums, producer Naoki Yoshida said that, like many other games with shifting weather, the effect is almost totally cosmetic.
“The weather right now is clear, but there will also be sunny, cloudy, rainy, and region-specific weather. For example, since it obviously doesn’t rain in the in desert regions like Ul’dah, there will be sand storms instead. Also, as you saw in the magitek intro, there are snowy regions which will have blizzards. There will be quite a lot of variation,” he said.
“Effect-wise, the biggest influence will more than likely be on fishing. During the previous Letter from the Producer Live I talked a bit about fishing, but you’ll essentially pick a fishing pole, pick your bait, and drop your line. Weather will have the biggest impact on fishing through its effects on water temperature. Other than that there won’t really be any other effects from weather.”
Potentially troublesome news for those who enjoy role-playing as fishermen, I guess. A Realm Reborn is a complete remake of Final fantasy 14, and currently in beta ahead of an expected launch on PC and PlayStation 3 later this year.
