Beyond: Two Souls box art is rather melancholy

Thursday, 18th April 2013 16:28 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Next week, on April 27, BEYOND will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a panel featuring Quantic Dream’s David Cage and actress Ellen Page. To celebrate, Sony has released the box art for the PS3 title. Enjoy. Beyond: Two Souls is slated for an October release on PS3.

I like it. Much better than American box art for Heavy Rain.

Looks very beautiful and unique. It is a wise choice in terms of marketing to have the names of Hollywood stars on cover
It is worth mentioning that the EU box art for HR ( blooded origami under the rain) was quite stunning and stylish, I loved it !

The cover is just one director’s name away from looking like a bonafide movie poster.

    Day 1, really?

I feel guilty, but I dont feel compelled to buy much on PS3 anymore.

    GTA5.. The Last of Us.

    I think that’s it.

lol I have many games yet to buy on ps3…its unbelievable. My backtrack is insane. Not even mentioning ps3 exclusives like Versus and The Last Guardian, but I probably wont buy a ps4 within the two years of release.

  16. Clupula

@15 – Yeah, I have about a dozen games just this year that I want for PS3. Some I didn’t pick up before (like Fallout: New Vegas) and some that haven’t come out yet (like Disgaea D2).

  17. No_PUDding

@15 I know it hasn’t been reported on here, but I doubt you’ll be playing either TLG or Versus on a PS3.

    I know trust me I know :P
Both games were practically teased in 2006….SIGH.
    Its a shame man.

Games I still need to buy:
    Ni No Kuni
    Resistance trilogy (maybe)
God of War games (maybe except the first one)

I could go on and on tbh….

Games Im likely to buy and yet to be released are:
    DI Riptide
    The Last Of Us
    Beyond Two Souls
    FFX HD
    Zone of the Enders 3

A cover further solidifying the fact that David Cage would rather make movies than games. We’ll see if the game delivers this time around or whether it will be bogged down by a shoddy story and mundane gameplay elements akin to Heavy Rain.

  25. Djoenz

This guy at least make new IP’s and wether they are movie inspired I feel like he took gaming to another level for me. I loved Heavy Rain.

  26. Clupula

@24 – I’m willing to bet you down even own a PS3. Your name is awfully similar to a certain person who I used to see post here…

  27. Gheritt White

@23: Well, while that is actually true (considering that at the end of the day, this is still a videogame selling to 2013′s market), it’s more the fact it’s not descriptive enough. It doesn’t properly exemplify the game’s high concept or ‘X statement’.

Box art isn’t designed for us, the internet hordes – we’ll have made our purchasing decision long before the game reaches shop shelves. Box art is for * everybody else* – and as an advertising and information tool, I think this one fails on all levels. They should have gone out with better targeted art and then included a reversible cover for more the educated consumer.

Tl;dr: box art is not art, it’s a marketing tool and this one isn’t particularly effective IMHO.

@26 I own a PS3 along with 40 games for it, I’m not a fanboy and I’ve posted to VG247 with this account since 2009. This has nothing to do with which console I’m preferential to and more to do with how I feel about Heavy Rain and Quantic Dream. Counter my argument with your own argument and tell my why you think i’m wrong instead of resorting to calling me a fanboy.

Hahaha I think thats funny. Some games only have their logos on cover.
This is exactly the type of cover people that arent familiar with Quantic Dream will see and be like ohhhhhh interesting.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. Clupula

@28 – Your screenname just really reminds me of that ItSucks guy, who did nothing but post, “PS3 is shit innit” or something like that whenever I’d lurk on the site for a few years.

    #30 2 years ago
  31. Gheritt White

@29: Name a successful game that only has a logo on the front cover, please.

Also, please tell me *why* you think it would people pick this up and go, “Ohhhhhh interesting.” What exactly is compelling about this image? Educate me.

  32. DrDamn

Ok it has the game title as well but …

  33. fihar

Ni No Kuni has a cover that doesn’t really tell you anything, still sells pretty well.
I thought cover was supposed to be eye-catching, if you want more info on the game you could just look at the back.

The cover isn’t as interesting as Heavy Rain, but the presence of Ellen Page in the cover alone should be interesting enough for a video game.

  34. stretch215

I might pick this up in the bargain bin, like I did heavy rain (which was the most enjoyable qte fest I’ve ever played). I’m expecting just as many qte’s here, but i hope I’m wrong. Let’s see how it reviews.

    Quake as well.

  36. Djoenz

Great job lol I was thinking of just mentioning Final Fantasy game covers.

    Educate you? lol smartass.
If you see this cover and wont even check out the back (Im not even mentioning buying it) just to see what its all about chances are you just want a cover about warfare and you are simpleminded.

Thing is most covers that doesnt only shows logos but also an image etc. are pretty much self-explanatory. Zombie on cover ok,Soldiers on cover ok etc.

This cover is not only lovely but also has some sort of enigma about it.
Not to mention Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe being mentioned.

People that wont even check out the back just to see what its all about based by this cover are simply put “narrow minded: being unreceptive to new ideas”.
