Shelter: Pid developer reveals new project with trailer and screens

Monday, 15th April 2013 15:01 GMT By Dave Cook

Shelter is the new game from Pid developer Might and Delight. It casts you as mother of a litter of badger cubs forced to defend them against the harshness of nature. We’ve got a trailer and debut screens right here.

The game is due for release on PC and Mac at some point this year and voting has begun for the game over on Steam Greenlight.

Might and Delight’s official synopsis reads, “As the mother of a litter of cubs you are forced out from familiar and safe surroundings to find new shelter in a beautiful, but dangerous world. The harsh reality of nature plays a pivotal role in the game whilst at the same time Shelter aims to pay a homage to the great outdoors and all its imposing beauty.”

Now this is something I’d want to play. I’m not sure about the washed out look of the graphics, though. I get that they’re going for pastel and I dig that, but I think they went a little too far. I do, however, love the ground texturing and what they did with that. So many developers avoid trying to show them as little squares, but it’s been embraced here and they’ve done something fun with it.

Also, the game premise itself sounds fun and unusual. I do actually wonder how they’re going to handle movement, and that it’s not just two legs pretending to be four. It did feel right though from weaving motion presented whilst running, I liked that.

So… I’m going to keep an eye on this one. I’m a little perturbed by how washed out it looks, but the uniqueness of everything else and its distinctive style would have me forgive that.

I also expected it to look a bit more vibrant. But the concept is really neat, so at least I voted on Greenlight.
