NHL ’14 dated: new trailer hits the ice, watch it here

Monday, 15th April 2013 12:14 GMT By Dave Cook

NHL ’14 has received its first trailer, courtesy of EA Sports. It splices up live-action footage and gameplay into one heady mix of body blocks, cheering and goals. The game’s out on multiple current-gen formats September 10.

We’ve also got the game’s first screenshot here.

Gamespot adds that the game will use FIFA’s Player Impact Engine, that its fights will play out in third-person thanks to Fight Night’s Enforcer Engine, and will include 1,000 new skating animations.

    Disappointing. And I hoped for a PC release. As a true PC gamer and NHL series lover, I feel sad about their choice.

    “Multiple current-gen formats” translates to … PS3 & 360?

    @1 seriously? Tell that to the millions who buy FIFA every year.

    @2 yeah, I feel that ignoring PC at this point in the console cycle is a real shame.

    @3 yeah, probs.

    @2 I feel the same way about some other sports games. It is one of the only things I miss on PC. But if they stick a sports franchise on PC, you, as a gamer, won’t need one every year. Modders will open it up and feed you updated rosters every season.

    It’s the oldest money grab in the industry. It would be nice if they actually took their time and didn’t release anything until they truly had something new to show.

    Half of these games are really just repackaged goods with patchable content added. If you’re lucky you might get a legitimately new game every three years.
