Thief will contain “mystical” elements, but no zombies

If you played any of the past Thief games you know shit sometimes got weird. Eidos Montreal has hinted that however much Garrett’s latest outing may differ from past adventures, some things will remain constant.

Speaking with StrategyInformer, producer Stephane Roy acknowledged there’s a “tradition” of fantasy elements in the otherwise realistic immersive sims, and said that Eidos Montreal has ‘done its homework’ on what people loved about the early games.

“I think we understand very well what makes a good Thief game. That’s the maximum I can tell you without Adam cutting me off, but I think if you read between the lines you can get your answer there,” he said.

“For this one we decided not to be too magical, instead we talked more about mystical. On our side it’s really important to see players connect with the games and the realistic believable aspect is important for this, but that said we are going to have some stuff that looks weird and is mystical. But we will not have zombies in this one.”

Thief is expected on PC and next-gen consoles in 2014. It’s a complete reboot of the franchise, but Eidos Montreal hopes to keep alive the aspects fans loved best without closing the game off to a broader audience. One strategy the developer is employing is simplifying the controls, but for the hardcore, it’s allowing you to turn off or otherwise eschew some modern gameplay elements, and there’ll be no tacked on multiplayer.

Stace had a look at Thief recently and came away with more questions than answers.

There actually was alot of great info in that article, questions I had wondered about it.

It’s not the same team that made Deus Ex:HR, so I wonder what they are currently working on then…….hmmm…………..

No Zombies!!! Yay! I hated the zombies in Thief, to me it was about the human enemies, those stupid taffers.

    Scary level tradition continues, yay!

They tried third person but decided against it….thank goodness.

PC version will be unique to the console version, I do hope that they give PC users the option to use the controller if they want.

Bad news maybe..While you can be a traditional thief and ghost though the levels, the option to kill everyone in the game is there. They did say that the Ai will be hard if you go that path, so I hope that it doesnt become a combat game.
