Sony “going hard”, “really in to win”, says Blacklight developer

Wednesday, 27th March 2013 00:12 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Sony is determined to win the next console generation, according to one recently-announced PlayStation 4 developer.

Zombie Studios boss and creative director Jared Gerritzen told Destructoid that Sony was “very, very proactive” about setting up the relationship which led to yesterday’s announce of Blacklight: Retribution for PlayStation 4.

“I think Sony is really in to win this one. I’m good friends with a lot of guys at Microsoft, I’m under their NDA flag, and Microsoft definitely has a different outlook than Sony does,” he said.

“Sony, like they say ‘Yeah, PlayStation 3 wasn’t what we wanted it to be in comparison in the arms race.’ So now they’re going hard, man. It’s pretty cool, on all points. I think that it will be really interesting to see what Xbox fires back with. It’ll be an awesome E3. Sony is just like, ‘GO! GO! GO! Let’s make this hardcore! Let’s get all these devs in and let’s make it as good as we can.’”

Gerritzen said Sony is trying to give independent developers support, rather than just giving them the green light and taking the rest of the afternoon off.

“They could have just been like, ‘Yeah, put it on the PlayStation 4. Cool.’ But they’re sending us kits, they’re sending us everything, they’re pulling us into PR groups, they’re setting up these events for us, and it’s just awesome,” he said.

“Considering the game’s been out, most publishers had been ‘yeah we don’t understand cause the game’s already out so whatever.’ But [Sony's] been really awesome. ‘Yeah let’s get this, here you can talk to these guys, let’s introduce you.’ It’s been really, really cool.”

Sony announced a swathe of new indie games yesterday. The PlayStation 4 is expected in the 2013 holiday season.

Sony got they’re asses whipped last generation. . Big time. . So they think now just get developers at any cost! There is going to be a ton of crap on that system. I see it as a house with the parents on vacation with the kids out of control. No supervision. They think that its cool. See movie project X. Sony Ps4 is project X

@2 i dont think so. Yeah maybe at the start the ps3 was crap but it certainly picked up and IMO surpassed both the 360 and the wii when it can to games. The past few years the ps3 is still making triple A exclusives while 360 was more focused on kinect and the wii was well more or less dead. You could say sales numbers beat them but games wise they dominated and they’re still going even though the ps4 is due with game like beyond & last of us

So Sony will push a game console and MS will push a living room BS box with Kinect…

Sony all the way for me if true! (well, PC 1st, Sony 2nd)

    I’m happy to hear this.
I think the true bless behind the PS4 is Mark Cerny, a man that is enthusiasm made man and is respected by every guy in the videogame industry.
The excited eyes of Cerny sold me the PS4 more than the Killzone vid.

i think the 360 was the better console in the early launch years and mid gen. ms did a great job. now, in this fading gen i play the ps3 more, it just has better games – or at least more games that i want to play. i actually don´t think it´s a coincidence. i think it is a strategy from sony to go out with a bang- with gow ascension, last of us, ni no kuni and yeah, even great nostalgia reboots like sly cooper. it shows a direction, it´s a great statement too. the games are here it says. imo everything looks like they really checked what was good and what wasn´t that good and focused on the good stuff. you can see that they´ve listened to criticism by looking at the new dualshock. it should still please the fans of the ol´ds but at the same time it´s enough redesign to make everyone happy that didn´t like the ds that much. they took what worked and changed what didn´t work so well. i am optimistic. i just repurchased a vita too, hearing about all this great stuff coming to the vita finally is cool. they are definitley taking the right steps atm. if they´ll now also announce a ps++ sub/flatrate that alows me to rent/buy all the stuff on psn for vita, ps3 and ps4 they could really convince a multiplat gamer like me to go sony only or at least as my main console.

x360 the better console in early launch?.. here is a few facts(all well documented)…

    1. no hdmi and wifi (wifi was a extra buy)
    2. expensive hd that you could find at half the price yourself, but ms forced you to buy.
    3. destroying disc because ms gone cheap with the disc reader
    5. 5 years of dreadful rrod
    6. pay to play online with xlive where others was free

you still say it had better games but that was a lie ms did use in their advertise campaign against sony(this is well documented).

its time you wake up polygem, you have been buttfecked by ms from the start…
