Borderlands 2: level cap raise inbound, story DLC teased, and more from PAX East

Gearbox has detailed another piece of Season Pass DLC for Borderlands 2, along with some other upcoming updates, promising a new weapon tier, a second new game plus mode, a level cap increase and even more DLC to come.

The new DLC will cost $5 for those without a Season Pass, and will release on all three systems on April 2, according to IGN's report from the developer's PAX East panel.

It raises the level cap from 50 to 61, and also brings back the first Borderland's "Pearlescent" loot tier. Pearlescent weapons will be the rarest in the game.

On the same day, a free update will add a new end-game option called Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Mode. Available as soon as you beat True Vault Hunter Mode and reach level 50, Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Mode scales all enemies to the highest character level in your party.

You'll note that none of this included any story missions; Gearbox said another piece of Season Pass DLC is due before the end of June with a fourth story campaign, said to be the largest expansion to date.

Polygon reports Gearbox showed a teaser of the next set of story content, with the original vault hunters playing "Bunkers and Badasses" - which seems a lot like Dungeons & Dragons - with Tiny Tina. Check out an off-screen video of it below.

Finally, Destructoid reports that 5,000 more Loot Chests - the ultimate Borderlands 2 special edition - are in production, with the possibility of more to come if they sell out quickly.

The Loot Chest features a wearable Goliath Replica Mask as well as a in-game one; shift codes; window decals; item cards; and wanted posters.

The $100 Loot Chests will be available via ThinkGeek in the US and Forbidden Planet elsewhere, as well as through Gearbox's own store.
