Daylight – first video of Zombie Studios’ URE4 game released

Saturday, 23rd March 2013 18:17 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Daylight, the procedurally generated psychological thriller from Zombie Studios, has a new video available showing the Unreal Engine 4 powered game running. It shows the main character in the game walking around an abandoned hospital with only her cell phone for illumination. Zombie says no two experiences will be alike in the game, and it is “best played alone in the dark.” Each time a new game is started, it will be a new world with new content and encounters. Sounds interesting. Daylight will be released on Steam this year, and will run around the $20 mark. Additional chapters are to be released post launch. Thanks, Evil Avatar.

even though it’s pre-Alpha, it’s still not impressive in terms of graphics.
the boken effect is nice and the torch fire effect are nice.
but the texture could be better:/

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Pre-Alpha would be drawing boards, conceptual ideas, and quick prototyping this game is clearly deep in alpha would even say beta. What you see is what you get and since this is an indie that has made a F2P that is making a procedural survival horror game that lasts only 30 mins looks really good. Amnesia didn’t look this good.

BTW Unreal is just a tool that the studio uses it doesn’t automatically make the game look better. It has global Illumination, a far better scripting engine, the fact that there is no need for baking in lighting or you can do scripting with compiling allows the developer to push a game or prototype that much faster.

@2 Beta is only when the game starts to be testes by players from outside the studio

Wrong. THat would be a public beta. All games go through conception, alpha, beta, gold.

“Beta is feature and asset complete version of the game, when only bugs are being fixed. This version contains no bugs that prevent the game from being shippable. No changes are made to the game features, assets, or code. Beta occurs two to three months before code release.”

Beta isn’t related to the public sure some studios will have a “beta” and let people test the game out to give feedback but it isn’t needed.

Idk what you people are on about. It is UE and not URE. Jpracer is right. Also.. why is that woman walking like a zombie? Why does she keep her hands extended in front of her? Who keeps their hands extended in front of them when they walk!? That’s just retarded game design. People are being payed for that!?

you have no idea what pre-alpha is.
the pre-alpha examples you gave are all pre-production process and Milage.
Pre-alpha means the game is complete but lacks certain features though devs are putting stuff in the game.
didn’t you see many games running on pre-alpha? refresh your memory= Killzone 3 when sony first showed it?

Alpha is when the game is feature complete and things are being ironed out in testing process.
Beta is public or private testing to find bugs and test online stress
    then you have Gold disk.

once again you are wrong because I’m studying Game Design course and this was what I needed to learn, and for you to quote Wikipedia shows you have no idea what you are talking about.

How can you say Beta is public/private testing and the game contains no bug? so what is the essence of people playing the game? for feedback of the game being cool or boring?
Defiance beta is out right now, please get your hands on it and try it. Tell me if you would believe Wikipedia that says game will have no bugs.

Because all process of beta is to check out bugs, broken, unplayable and feedback critics.
