Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update adds paid community pass – rumour

Thursday, 21st March 2013 22:12 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was reportedly accidentally updated today, and before Valve could yank the patch, users have uncovered an interesting couple of references to some sort of premium server pass.

The details of the yanked update were collated on Reddit, and the most pertinent part is labelled “new strings“. In this section you’ll find this mentions of the pass:

“Community Support Pass Season One: Grants access to Season One’s featured community maps on Official Servers. Proceeds are divided among the featured map creators.”

There’s also plenty of references to the in-game store.

Other interesting snippets found in the update include changes to Hostage Mode allowing you to carry targets, something called Trial Mode and a new menu UI.

PCGamesN reports the patch is expected to go live for good tomorrow, so all this should become clear shortly. Expect PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates to follow.

This is it. Season Pass of Counter Strike. Soon every shooter will become a messy combination of micro-transactions, DLC and premium passes.

Idk this actually sounds like DLC worth paying for. I mean, its not like CoD or BF3 in which youre paying a large company for their extra content. Youre paying to play on maps created by the community that will be featured on official servers, and the proceeds go to the map creators from the community themselves. At least thats what it seems like it’s saying. I’d pay for that.

The difference between this and other season passes: ‘Proceeds are divided among the featured map creators.’
