Crimson Dragon “really not far off”

Thursday, 14th March 2013 01:03 GMT By Brenna Hillier

The long-anticipated and much-delayed Crimson Dragon is almost upon us, although no release window has been set.

“The game has been delayed and I know people are waiting for it, but it is definitely moving ahead,” Grounding’s Yukio Futatsugi told Eurogamer.

“Microsoft will announce it when they’re ready.”

Futatsugi said he couldn’t say how far from completion Crimson Drtagon is, “But it’s really not far off.”

The developer boasts several members of the Panzer Dragoon team, and the on-rails shooter is something of a spiritual successor to the popular Sega property.

“I’m working hard to make sure no one says, ‘The old one was better.’ But Panzer is Sega’s IP and this game will be different from that. The design concept of the dragons and the environments is very different,” Futatsugi said.

“All I can really do is finish it. Anyway, games are made differently these days, so I hope people will see this as the sort of game Panzer Dragoon might have been if it had been made today.”

A Kinect exclusive, Crimson Dragon was expected in 2012 but mysteriosuly feel off the radar. I saw it in 2011, and I would have paid good money for it even then.

Thanks, woe.

I can think of three games, that worked on Kinect: Adventures, Dance central and Child of Eden. The latter didn’t even need Kinect. And so looks Crimson Dragon, an on-rails shooter, with better playability on a controller.

Yeah, Microsoft really has a hard time showing decent Kinect software since 2010.

I put maybe ~20hrs into CoE with Kinect, I had severe problems with my hands at the time and could barely play anything else – trigger buttons causing particular problems.

It was a real godsend to have a proper game made with love that I could get into, and I did too – I got actually pretty good at that, cracking the top 20 global scores (which is a first for me!).

My hands are better than they were then and only the other day I tried CoE with a pad…just didn’t FEEL the same. If only more devs took the plunge proper.

I’ve been really looking forward to this for ages and tbh if it controls as well as CoE (granted it needed some getting used to) then it should be excellent!

I wish they’d made more of a Panzer Dragoon Saga game instead.
