Torment: Tides of Numenera to almost double Legacies at $3M goal

InXile has released a new video with the orchestral theme for Torment: Tides of Numenera, along with a collection of gorgeous concept art pieces, as it races towards a tasty-sounding $3 million stretch goal.

As detailed in an update to the Kickstarter campaign, if the project reaches $3 million - which seems quite likely at this point - inXile will add further compexity to the game's unique Tides and Legacy systems, include a new kind of faction called Cults, and add seventh companion to the roster.

Your character's Legacy varies over the course of the game, and affects what abilities are granted by some items; what focus you can master; and change how characters react. Initially, InXile planned to include six Legacies - one for each of the five Tides, and a sixth one for those whose in-game actions don't align with one or another. If it makes $3 million, the developer will account for the character's two strongest Tides, allowing for 11 Legacies.

"Your Legacy can change throughout the game, and doubling the number of Legacies doesn’t double the gameplay time. But it does have a tremendous impact on how reactive and replayable Torment will be," inXile's Kevin Saunders said.

"That makes this game a deeper, richer experience and provides you with a host more options to consider and explore as you seek your answer to Torment’s core question. Naturally, this also means that we’ll be creating even more cool, unique items and effects that respond specifically to the paths you’ve chosen."

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment and is expected on Linux, Mac and PC in late 2014. Enjoy the art and music below.
