Arkane Studios says PS4′s 8GB of RAM is “a joy”

Dishonored developer Arkane Studios is rather pleased with PS4′s 8GB of GDDR5.

Speaking with Eurogamer at the BAFTA awards, with lead designer Christophe Carrier said this was “a joy,” to hear, as many times developers have to cut content to meet internal memory requirements.

“We need memory, you know? As a level designer we are struggling against memory every day,” he said. “We cut things, we remove things, we strip things, we split the levels, we remove NPCs from levels because there’s not enough memory.

“So knowing that memory is something that is going to be improved in the next generation of consoles: to us, it’s a joy. It’s something that we were waiting for. We were PC gamers at the beginning.

“We love PC games, and we had to make games on consoles. But the main problem was memory. The processors are good, but the memory, for our games, is the most important. So it’s great.”

Dishonored took top honors at the British Academy Games Awards Tuesday night with the award for Best Game.

Also, I find it very humorous that many developers (like this dude and Carmack) are actively praising the PS4 architecture (based upon seeing it) and many internet commentators are actively dissing the PS3 architecture (based upon limited knowledge of it).

Hmmmm, who do we trust? Skilled developers with hands on experience or l33thax00r who installed his own graphics card and put a new fan on his CPU… It’s a tough call.

8gb is more than ample when it comes to it.

Should have changed it to “as opposed to the 700 petagigblitterflopmaster 8000 in the PS3″.

PS3 don’t have shared memory, the 360 do. PS3 is 256 MB RAM and 256 MB VRAM.

PS3 can’t run cross-gaming chat due to the lack of memory.

PS3 does not even have decent OS to begin with.

PS3 is already a failure with 256 MB Of Ram and it’s OS is super heavy for PS3.

Can’t imagine how developers were made porting something to the PS3 or making something Working there.

My PC in 2003 had already 512 Mb Of ram and it was not really good. Lol

Now, Sony is making a PC with PS4. Dumb idiots.
