SimCity: EA confident of smoother European launch after US issues

SimCity publisher EA has promised a smoother European launch following a string of Origin pre-load and server issues experienced after the US release.

After the game launched Stateside yesterday, Origin users who had pre-loaded the game ahead of release were unable to play, and that many players joined a queue for their turn to finally get their hands on it.

On Twitter, EA has promised a smoother launch across Europe on when the game drops on Friday:

We’ll be on hand to see if it does go smoothly.

Meanwhile, the first SimCity review scores have dropped. See the start of our score round-up here.

Thanks Eurogamer.

@1&2, in theory you can pre-download game when yours account receives key for game because key is basically “Hey, he really owns this game and can access it” -flag. What happened with US launch was that keys weren’t distributed to accounts earlier than release day and time which caused whole “No pre-downloads” situation.

If EA / Origin gives out keys early for EU then people can pre-download said game and some of the troubles could be averted. Still I would except clusterfuck of release because EU servers already have people on them, even from US, and as more rush in those servers most likely boggle.
