Call of Duty co-creator exits Respawn – rumour

Jason West, one half of the team that founded Infinity Ward and created Call of Duty, is said to have left new studio Respawn Entertainment.

The news comes via Kotaku, citing two anonymous sources.

West is said to have left the developer amicably, for family reasons, in May 2012. He had served as president.

Polygon offers corroboration, noting that West has retired from the industry, and had been considering the move for some time.

As West co-founded Infinity Ward and led the studio during its development of massive blockbuster Modern Warfare 2, he can probably afford to focus on something else for a while.

West and colleague Vince Zampella left Activision in the midst of a scandal, and later won a settlement from the mega-publisher. They signed on with EA, founding Respawn, which will bring its first project to E3 2013.

EA and Respawn are yet to offer comment on the news.
