Watch Dogs team given whatever “they wanted to fulfill their dream,” after E3 showing

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said Watch Dogs developer, Ubisoft Montreal, was given a much as it needed in order to make the best game possible.

Speaking with MCV, Guillemot after he “revelation” which was E3, the popularity of the game gave the firm a chance to increase the team’s size, along with “all the capacity they wanted to fulfill their dream.”

“You always have great ideas, but you need enough people to bring it to life. After E3, we really made sure they had all the teams they needed and it’s an open world, that is well-adapted to what people want to play today. So there’s good potential for success,” he said.

Watch Dogs is expected on PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and more likely than not, Microsoft’s next console.

I bet. When you put out the best thing at E3, you get what you want.

Now let’s hope the final game is exactly like the E3 “vertical slice”… Unlike a certain Aliens game and to some degree, even a new BioShock title.

I just love how Ubisoft snuck it in at the end. Then were like WTF when they basically won E3.

On the face of it, it looks a lot cooler than GTA. Rockstar just needs to stop trying to make a David Simon show without David Simon, and try for a good game instead.

@2 If Bioshock Infinite sucks, I’m quitting gaming. That’s the last straw.

Maybe Guillemot thought gimmicks like Rayman and Shootmania Storm would have focused the audience attention…
Or maybe he didn’t care much about the game because it was PC based, with PC as lead platform.

Clueless Guillemot is clueless.

I must be in the minority but this game is doing nothing to me. Between this and GTA V it’s GTA 10000 times before Watch Dogs.

Is there no room for both Watch Dogs and GTA in our lives?

@12 I think they are referring to the fact the game was altered after an employee throw a hizzy fit in a word document and quit.
@11 doesn’t look like it.
@10 Give it time it is New IP.
@8 Well if Rockstar think they can redefine the Open world genre that way then fine, they know what they are doing since they popularized the Open world genre.

The problem is the popular Infinite demo shown at E3 2011 (Or 2012? Not sure). It won all sorts of awards for the game but is NOT in the main game. As some journalists from new preview events have pointed out, that was a carefully designed scenario designed just for the E3. While the newer versions they played were great, the same chapter from the actual game is NOWHERE near as well paced, polished or coherent as the one shown in the demo.

It (hopefully) won’t be another Aliens Colonial Marines but these “vertical slices” are getting more and more detached from the actual experience.

^ huh? I totally missed that. What journalists played the game? Come on, it’s my GOTY aspirant with TLOU, don’t brake my heart before I fell in love :-)

Yeah, the whole going to the 80′s thing was rejigged and moved to a different section. It’s quite common in games really for bits of the game to be crammed together to make a demo level.

IRRC FEAR 1 and FEAR 2 had demo’s that were sections pasted from 5 or 6 different levels (one bit is even from a level very late in the game on FEAR 2) and presented as a single coherent demo.

They should reveal that Watch Dogs is just Assassin’s Creed in a modern day setting. The way it looks now seems the only way Assassin’s Creed would work in that setting.
The modern day segments in the AC games were pretty stupid, instead of guards with guns you’d still get into fistfights in that Templar/Abstergo HQ.

@13 That’s not how it looks to me. David Simon knows what he’s doing. Rockstar are just floundering trying to make these “average joe” “gritty characters” living “normal criminal lives” and what they end up with is both shallow and tedious.

Simply ticking the box isn’t enough, you also have to bring the quality.

The Ballad of Gay Tony was a step in the right direction, but as for GTA V I think it has everything left to prove.

@19 Personally i believe that every game Rockstar makes is filled with quality. i think each GTA Game has its own personality to set itself apart from other GTA games. With those three quotes they are the formula of each GTA Game and i admire that and if you try to change that formula the fans go ballistic. With TBOGT i enjoyed that game more than GTA IV so you are right it is “a step in the right direction”. With GTA V i think it trys to change that formula you described and trys to be more innovative by making these three characters: Former Drug Dealer/Criminal, Family Man/Criminal and Villian/Loan shark/businessman/criminal/madman who each have their own personality/lives and interrelating with each other in the storyline working together on missions/heists which creates an interesting dynamic within the GTA Universe.

@20 I don’t think you can really say that the first GTAs ever cared about documentary style realism. That was introduced with San Andreas, and at least for me that was pretty grating as well.

With GTA IV it had pretty much taken over everything, and at least personally I was disappointed by that.

I’m hoping they’ll turn it around with GTA V, but I’m just not convinced.
