PS4 user interface detailed in high-res images

Cease your pathetic PhotoShop efforts on grimy screengrabs from the PlayStation 4 reveal; here are some high-resolution shots of the new console’s user interface.

The new interface replaces the XMB, which served both the PlayStation 3 and PSP as well as a number of Sony mobile devices. You can see a fairly similar interface will be available via mobile devices, although it’s unclear if this is a standalone app or a Remote Play set up. It’s also not apparent whether these are mocks ups or images of the operating system in its current developmental stage.

The emphasis on social and streaming is readily apparent in the interface shots, and what’s particularly interesting is the way the player is pointed at new content in a social context; it might go down a little better than the Xbox 360′s current ad-heavy tile dashboard.

I didn’t shrink these at all; be patient while they load, so you can see all the details.

Thanks, Gematsu.

Looks like crap, IMO. Do we need another flat, boxy Windows 8 mock interface?

Looks simple enough, I however do not like these tiles. Maybe it’ll be fine to navigate with the touchpad but I’ve always preferred neat, organized & detailed little lists & why I preferred the XMB over the X360 interface.

I wish i had friends who looked like that … #fml btw nice UI, albeit a little cluttered.. hard to tell what the userflow will be like with these screenshots.

I’m with Johnny, I really like the PS3 interface, and Apple interfaces.

/Spinal Tap/ Simple, Pure, Classic.

Some elements of it resemble Xbox Metro but both 360 and PS3 have nice interfaces at the moment imo.

Its like watching sex on a screen; but without the annoyance of having to turn it off when someone else comes into the room.

Looks decent!

I’m with you Dave Cook. Wish they would have optional UI’s I prefer to stick with my XMB. This looks too much like crapbook and everyone knows I hate that shit.

Looks like the latest (and worst) version of the xbox dashboard.

Colour me unimpressed.

I suppose this is cool, i can adjust to any UI. But at least it ain’t filled to the brim with ads like on Xbox Live (i hope).

Touched optimized UI. You can smell it from a mile away. It’s ok on an iPad but on the big screen I personally prefere more elegance and not those bold tiles but yeah, probably it’s just me.

Do they actually think that gamers are going to use their real names!??

Keep it simple !! it’s like I am browsing facebook not a console menu … sucks big time, we don’t need that much socialism for our playing experience because from what I’ve noticed it will cause more distraction than joy !!

@15 i am sure as hell not using my real name, i not sure who will.

^ probably no-one.

Also, there are far too many good looking girls on those screenshots.

What kind of a lie are Sony trying to push, here!?

@17

I will, no more of this anons sending rasict MSG and the like.
If people used there real names the whole network will seem more social I think. A lot like Facebook.
I will only add those with real names on my friendslist.

How many times do you get real rude msg after a match or something? I think this is a good thing, people will think about there image more While online. It’s an option ill be taking advantage of..

^ I’m not sure if using your real name is necessarily going to lead to less abuse for you.

And if you only add people with real names, your FL might end up being quite small…

@18 didn’t even think about that :) , Sony doesn’t know our real names so they can’t enforce it. @19 good luck to you mate i just do not trust people online for various reasons, everything i heard about PS4 does make it sound more social than PS3 which is something i like to an extent, i will only be adding people i know or i enjoy playing provided they speak english.

Looks like shit. I love the XMB.. But it only makes sense when you compare it to the current version of the PSN Store… which looks exactly like this crap.. sigh.

Looks MS styled, there’s no doubt, BUT it has to be said, I quite like it. I know the missus will too, whereas for someone like her you can’t deny the XMB was less intuitive.

@27 I hope not, i am all for trophy hunting but that takes the biscuit: this are just mock-ups, the UI is not final it could go through changes.

@15
The idea with real names was only for friends, seeded from existing social networks. So you keep your tag for online vs. randoms but your friends can also see your actual name. For real life friends these seems fairly logical to me.

It does look very Metro (with out the text leading into next screen they like to do). I think it’s fine. Clean, useful. I hope the personalisation they talked about extends to your being able to set screens up how you want them and not just what they advertise at you.

The “DayZ100″ should be the online nickname of the guy.

I think the new UI won’t force you to use your real name online, maybe allowing you to share it only with people you want to.

Anyway, I’d be happy with any UI that allows me to easily categorize my content.
It’s not funny when you have to manually set a game in a category/folder with 3 clicks and a name input for more than 50 times…

what about dynamic themes?

aww…i thought the new PSN would be Real ID.
i guess when you add someone has a friend, then you see their real names.

if you can use your real name from the beginning without Anon names, I’m sure people will behave themselves and be more respecteful
