PS4: DualShock 4 is "not a Move controller", says Sony's Michael Denny

PS4 will be bundled with a dual camera bar that tracks Sony's new DualShock 4 controller, but don't get it mixed up with Move says Michael Denny, vice president of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe. Denny has elaborated a little further on what the new controller can do, and what its light strip is capable of.

Speaking with OPM, Denny responded to a question about the DualShock 4's light bar.

"Its not a Move controller because the Move controller is different and will be compatible with PlayStation 4 and the new camera. The feature your talking about is the light bar and how that may interact with the camera.

"Obviously the new 3D stereo camera and HD feed [will] be a lot better with AR aspects, and it can track the light source clearly in 3D so there are going to be features possible in a motion sense there. And obviously the DualShock 4 has improved SixAxis motion sensing so motion gaming is possible with the new controller”.

Denny stated that Sony is viewing Move and DualShock 4 as two separate control methods in their own right, and that Move is capable of capturing more complex, free-flowing motions.

He added, “I think the way to to look at the camera use and the light bar for the DualShock 4 it is that it adds new more possibilities to the DualShock controller rather than thinking of it as a separate Move controller”.

So there you have it, DualShock 4 won't double up as a Move controller, which should come as some comfort to those who dislike motion control in games.

We've also got a big gallery of photos showing the DualShock 4 controller and camera bar close up.
