Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn closed beta starts this week

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is finally approaching release; check out the PlayStation 3's control pad setup and take a look at exploration in the rebuilt world in the two trailers past the break.

Square Enix has announced that the closed beta kicks off on February 26 in Australia, which is February 25 by US and most European timezones. A benchmarking tool was released last week in anticipation of the testing.

Testers will be able to try out Full Active Time Events (FATE), a new kind of randomly occurring event. You don't need to be in a party to join in; if you wander into the vicinity you'll be automatically granted entry.

The totally overhauled MMORPG is expected on PC and PlayStation 3 within a few months.
