AMD teases new rendering tech

AMD has begun teasing what seems to be a new rendering technology called TressFX, which will be revealed on February 26. The name and the splash art suggest something to do with hair, but AMD is calling it “a new frontier of realism in PC gaming” so it’s likely to be something with broader application. I expect a next-generation middle-ware which can be licensed by third-parties, like Nvdia’s PhysX.

Thanks, Evil Avatar.

What I am more interested is that this could be implemented in ps4 and 720.

Nothing implies either the ps4 or The xbox720 could handle it. Sure they write ‘PC gaming’ for a reason

@1 Dream on!

@2 Too right mate!

This is good news. If this will be awesome enough I’m upgrading next year when the 2nd generation of cards that use this tech will come out.

It’s clearly about PC gaming but who says it won’t also be featured in consoles? PhysX for example works on consoles…

“PhysX for example works on consoles…”

Yeah right, the only problem that GPU acceleration is not supported there at all so it’s not physX.

Considering Ati have GPU now in Wii U ,PS4 and probably in Xbox 720 having something like PhysX will be super easy for developers.

@erth,
Maybe now you can understand why most people laugh at you. Continue on.

Sorry PC fellas, it depends, unless its a strictly hardware based procedure.
