Capcom decides not to host a Captivate event this year

Capcom has said it will skip out on its annual Captivate event this year, and will instead be focusing on E3, Comic-Con and PAX. According to SVP Christian Svensson, the firm will make any “announcements around other events or not at events at all,” instead. The announcement was made on Capcom Unity. Thanks, Siliconera.

Hazarding a guess, I’m guessing that Capcom decided not to host a Captivate event this year because the big releases that they were so sure would be break-out successes turned out to not be so. Both DmC and Resident Evil 6 didn’t get the sales nor overall reaction they were expecting, which may alter their plans for the two franchises. Combined with their forced retirement of the Mega Man brand, and all you’ve got left for well-established Capcom IPs for people to look forward to is the Street Fighter brand… which if I have heard right, Street Fighter x Tekken didn’t do too well either.

In other words, it seems to me that they may be rethinking how they operate in light of several of their assumptions about fans and consumers not actually working out as they had hoped.

Kind of a bummer. Also, is it just me or is Capcom pretty much sending Lost Planet 3 to die? Where is the hype?
