PS4: Sony to release ‘Smart Glass’-style app for Android & iOS
PS4 got a glittering reveal last night in New York, with plenty of talk about connectivity, and making Sony’s format accessible across all devices. As it happens, Sony will launch ‘PlayStation App’ on iOS and Android, that will let gamer user their mobile device as a second PS4 screen.

In Sony’s PS4 press release this morning, a statement explained, “A new application from SCE called ‘PlayStation App’ will enable iPhone, iPad, and Android- based smartphones and tablets to become second screens.
“Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices.”
Does this sound like something you might use?
Thanks IGN.

So we can’t CONTROL the game with a phone / tablet? That would have been really huge for casuals that don’t care about input lag and other stuff.

@1, should be possible, there are already Android apps that do this for the PS3.

“remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices.” Is one of the things that I really like.

Being able to do interface stuff on the phone would be good. Fully play the majority of PS4 games on Vita even better.

@DrDamn
They touched on using the Vita much akin to the Wii U GamePad last night, but it will rely on third party supporting it.

If remotely watching other gamers on their devices includes watching someone playing the console the person owns, I can see this being a good tool for parents to keep an eye on what their kids are doing when they play games. It could raise blatant issues of privacy, but I’m sure some parents would feel more comfortable being able to make sure their kids aren’t being exposed to anything nasty on a more socially geared console.
As something to be able to watch others playing their games, I like the idea. Watching other people play games when away from the system can make for an enjoyable experience, given the whole eSports thing.

Duuuude hahahaahha
PS4: Kinect like ( even if it is just for the controller, the concept is the same: Tracking of real objects in a 3d space )
720: Kinect
Wii U: Motion Control
PS4: SmartGlass app -like
720: SmartGlass
Wii U: Wii U Pad
PS4: PC like features ( well.. in terms of design )
720: PC like features ( as known so far )
Wii U: PC like features ( low-end… but still )
Is hard to find a difference between these features… ( some of them even look a like )
they better put on nice exclusives, or this gen will not be worth it.
( Don’t be mad at me… everybody is ripping everybody off… they better get their content right )

#10 Indeed, basically with their whole proprietary hardware agenda having failed hard, Sony ‘re just releasing another X720 with a Dualschock. Pretty much a second Vita.

@11, How can they copy something that doesn’t even officially exist yet?

Yes, let’s debate it for 50 posts in 3 am in the morning only to see another Xbox with another Kinect in a few months.

Did you try talking to real people yet, ‘Dragon’?
I highly suggest to follow my previous advice on expanding your vocabulary.
