Planetside 2 mergers detailed; three US and two EU realms axed

Sony Online Entertainment has detailed plans to merger Planetside 2 servers, as announced earlier this week.

The sever mergers are as follows:

• US West:
  - Genudine and Helios -> Helios
• US East:
  - Mattherson and SolTech -> Mattherson

- Waterson and Jaeger -> Waterson

• EU:
  - Cobalt and Lithcorp -> Cobalt

- Ceres and Mallory -> Ceres

Players registered on shuttered servers will be automatically transferred to their new homes, witj friend lists, outfits and certs intact. If you don't like where you end up, you'll be able to utilise a free transfer token.

In a post on the shooter MMO's forum, SoE's Matt Higby said it's not that overall populations are low, but that some servers are much more popular than others.

"This is a factor of which servers were most popular at launch, and players gravitating to one or two servers per locale. Now that the crush of new players from launch and the holidays has died down, and our server populations and incoming new players have stabilized we have a good idea of where each server stands in terms of player population, empire population and we can model merges to optimize the populations," he said.
