Maybe the PS4 will be out in 2013 in Europe, and maybe it won’t
MVC spoke a bit with SCE Europe’s Jim Ryan about whether or not the Holiday 2013 PS4 launch mentioned at the reveal event last night includes Europe. The answer is, well, interesting.

“We’re not saying if 2013 includes Europe. But don’t infer anything from that. You can take that anyway you want, but you shouldn’t.”
OK, then, I won’t infer anything. I’ll just leave your words there for everybody to look at. I ain’t sayin’ nothin’.

I’m guessing this means they’re definitely looking to a Europe launch for this year however they’re not putting it in writing until they’re 100% sure they can. As we all know, doing a worldwide launch for a console is extremely crazy
Especially as they need enough stock to fill those shelves and if it’s worldwide then it’s more shelves that need filling at once.

“We are only saying we will launch the system before the end of 2013, we’re not saying in which parts of the world. But don’t infer anything good or bad from that. You can take that anyway you want, but you shouldn’t.”
You(well someone) kind of paraphrased it. Same idea tho.

MCV, not MVC. And the story is here:
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/sony-it-was-more-important-to-show-what-ps4-can-do-not-what-it-looks-like/0111252
Also, the full quote is:
“We’re not saying if Holiday 2013 includes Europe at this stage.
“We are only saying we will launch the system before the end of 2013, we’re not saying in which parts of the world. But don’t infer anything good or bad from that. You can take that anyway you want, but you shouldn’t.”

@6 It’s much harder to launch for Europe than for the states, Japan, etc, considering they have to localize everything in many different languages. This takes time and I don’t want other territories having to wait just because of us, so to speak.
Anyways, I would say his response does seem like “We would like to have one global launch day, but can’t promise anything yet”. Such a thing would be pretty epic.

@9 yes, unfortunately we, who live in the old continent, will have to wait a little bit longer. I don’t mind if it is released in other parts of the world before. This way, we can see how the world accepts it. It also gives some time to those who still won’t know if they’ll go with Sony or Microsoft this gen.

Europe will get the system in 2013. They’re using common overclock existing tech thats easy and readily in stock. slap on the covers and ship world wide. I think Euro release will be 2 weeks after North America.

I interpret that as Sony being reluctant to push itself for a Euro release in 2013, but at the same time willing to reconsider if MS pushes them to it. Europe is a large but costly market that ties up a lot of resources.

Whats this, Japanese company sunk by idiot marketing policy which neglects to include the largest consumer market on earth? Surely not…?? If Europe wasn’t included in the launch, I bet every MS executive in the whole world will be having the biggest party they can imagine Christmas 2013, right before their own console is launched into the hands of some very angry European gamers.

this is hardly news, this is an opinion, a really worthless one

@16 I disagree, this is really important and European news sites should bang on about this issue as much as they can to pressure Sony to prioritize what is a very important territory. Aside from the UK Europe seems to be Sony land.
Clearly they want to release it at the same time but two new consoles going into mass production causes bottlenecks.

Today I was reminded why I detest the BBC.
Five minute piece on the PS4 announcement, three minutes of which was about how mobile gaming is taking over (with lots of advertising for Apple through multiple shots of shiny iDevices and plenty of iOS gaming on show).
And we pay for that. On pain of imprisonment.

@15 i HOPE MS takes advantage of SCEE’s bullshit and overtakes Sony in the PAL zone. Maybe than they will learn.

@20 The PAL zone has been shafted by Sony for long enough. From late and missing releases (Counter Strike GO anyone?) to idiotic management that dictates publishers have to translate metadata in 12 languages or they are not allowed to release digital content in certain countries. Scandinavian country’s are especially prone to being shafted due to this.
Also remember all the rewards Journey won? Europe did not even get the Journey collection. A game published by Sony them selves for fucks sake. This should pretty much sum up how much Sony cares about Europe.
Its high time they their asses handed them them in the PAL zone and i do hope MS will take this opportunity to do so.

In Europe each country has its manager, with which one being able to make local decisions based on their own country’s preferences while having to report to the overall Europe manager. I don’t assume things are easy to coordinate. People dissing on Sony over such things have no idea how global businesses work, apparently…
I’m not saying I’m happy with how things are run but I sure can understand why it would be hard.

As long as we get it in the USA and its not delayed, then it doesn’t really bother me that much. I would feel bad for the European gamers but that’s life. Its not like they wont get it, if they don’t get it same time as the rest of us it might be a month or two later. So it shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
