Nintendo Downloads Europe: F-Zero, Castlevania & Monster Hunter 3 demos lead the week

Wednesday, 20th February 2013 11:58 GMT By Dave Cook

Nintendo has released its list of new downloads hitting the Wii U and 3DS eShops this week, including SNES classic F-Zero and a free demo of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

First up, you can get F-Zero for just 30p on Wii U Virtual console tomorrow. Check out the details here.

Wii U owners can also get to grips with a free Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo before Capcom’s full game launches in about a month’s time. Trine 2: Director’s Cut is getting a discount this week down from £13.99 to £9.99. The same foes for Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition, which is now £4.49 down from £8.99.

3DS now, and gamers can get curious indie title Nightsky at £8.99, and free demos of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Does anything above take your fancy? I’d recommend the Castlevania demo. I played the first three hours of the game earlier this month and then wrote words about it. It’s rather brilliant.

Demo is up now (as of yesterday). Looks very nice. Decent content for a demo (two hunts and lots of character choices). However it doesn’t even give you a controller layout, let along tell you what you can use the controller screen for. Anyone got any pointers? I spent 20 minutes hitting the easy beastie and then the hunt timer ran out. I think he was on his last legs but who knows? It’s silly when they put together something so good in terms of content but neglect the fundamentals of telling you what you are meant to do and how you do it.

Also got very frustrating at one point where the beast sat in a zone point with me unable to hit him as if I got too close I zoned to the other area. This point kind of belies it’s handheld roots. A proper home console version of the series could really expand on this.
