Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U will not support GamePad-only play

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate producer Ryozo Tsujimoto has confirmed that the Wii U edition will not allow for GamePad-only play. It’s firmly a two screen experience he said.

Speaking with Joystiq Tsujimoto said, “We don’t have that feature within Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

“Really, the way that we approach making the title for the Wii U was that we wanted to make the Wii U GamePad subscreen a compliment to the main screen.

“So instead of making the screens replaceable or being able to switch them, we really wanted to make sure that players are utilizing both real estate of the screens, in conjunction with each other.”

What do you make of this? Would you have preferred to have the option of off-screen play? Let us know below.

Thanks Nintendo Life.

Hmmm I remember reading that it supported gamepad-only play when they announced it, or shortly after… guess they changed their minds

Personally think it doesn’t make sense not to. I’ll be getting this regardless, but it won’t get near as much play if I can’t play it solely on the pad. MH is a very selfish game anyway, as regards hogging the telly, so unless it’s genuinely so good that I want to get the 3ds version too, it’ll be getting far less play than I would like.

Perhaps /that’s/ the real idea behind it. =(

Third party dev, not fully grasping Ninty’s gimmick? Same old, same old.

Gimmick. The most overused and misinterpreted word in the gamer lexicon. Such as it is.

Hmmm. Played the demo last night. The game supports the pro-controller. So … kind of negates their reasoning for not supporting gamepad only play doesn’t it?
