PlayStation 4 to allow cross-play with other devices - rumour

PlayStation 4 may allow for multiplayer with 'smartphones and other devices", a new report claims.

"Sony's new console may also allow users to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices," the Wall Street Journal claims in a new report, citing "people familiar with Sony's plans".

As the PlayStation 3 is already capable of cross-play with the Vita, it would seem to follow that the PS4 will expand on that capacity, perhaps to PlayStation Certified devices.

The publication made the claim among many other popular rumours, claiming independent sources for AMD hardware in both Orbis and Durango; an improved Kinect; 2013 release dates for both machines; a PS4 controller with touch features; and a heavy social emphasis for the PS4. It also reiterated its earlier report that the PlayStation 4 will stream PlayStation 3 games via Gaikai tech.

If the PLayStation 4 isn't revealed at the February 20 PlayStation Meeting we're all going to be a bit non-plussed.
