Eidos Montreal to reveal unannounced project in ‘coming months’ – rumour

Monday, 18th February 2013 08:44 GMT By Dave Cook

Thief 4 has been rumoured as in-development at Eidos Montreal for some time, yet there hasn’t been a peep about it for ages. The LinkedIn CV of an employee at the studio may hint at an upcoming reveal.

I’ve flagged this as rumour as there’s no way of verifying it at present, but intrepid internet snooper Superannuation posted a link to the LinkedIn CV of Alexandre Richer,
generalist/UI programmer at Ubisoft.

Previously Richer worked at Eidos Montreal, having left his role in January this year. Under his listed projects and work experience he wrote the following:

Note the line, “More details to come within the upcoming months.” This could hint at the studio’s involvement its long-rumoured Thief 4 project. Word on the street is the game is in development for PS4 and Xbox 720.

The rumour mill was also kicked into overdrive when this alleged Thief 4 cinematic was found in the wild.

With the reveal of PS4 happening this Wednesday and Xbox 720 billed for a holiday season 2013 release, Richer’s profile does seem timely.

What do you think?

    But… Thief 4 IS announced.

    http://www.thief4.com/

It’s official website and it says Eidos Monteral is working on this game. So if this announcement is to be about unannounced game, it will not be about Thief 4. I guess.

@2 it hasn’t had a formal reveal yet.

Huh, didn’t know that. It’s quite silly then – official website exist, but formal reveal hasn’t happened :f

Sorry, but an announced game does not miraculously become an unannounced game simply because progress hasn’t been revealed in a while. The article’s author is quite incorrect when he says Thief 4 is “rumoured as in-development”, “long-rumoured” and “word on the street”. There is no rumor about it, I don’t know how you managed to come up with this misinformation. Even a two minute Wikipedia search proves that Thief 4 has officially been in Eidos Montreal’s hands for years.

It’s far more likely that this project is Deus Ex 4 or maybe Legacy of Kain 6 (especially since it’s been confirmed that Crystal Dynamics are not the ones working on the latter).

@6 We can’t report on it concretely until it’s been properly, formally announced by Square-Enix. As in, an actual reveal event at E3 or something.

It’s not misinformation. That implies I’m deliberately misleading people, which I’m not.

I didn’t say VG247 are deliberately misleading people, but this is certainly still misleading at worst and erroneous at best. Since when does the presence or absence of an E3 video determine whether a game is formally announced or not? Thief 4 *was* announced by Square Enix, no two ways about it; there has been a press release and there have been official websites and forums up for 4 years. The way the article has been worded, it looks like the author didn’t realize any of this, so either miscommunication or misinformation.

Murdered: Soul Suspect. New game from Square-Enix and first screen

“Murdered: Soul Suspect is an exciting new game from Square Enix which challenges players to solve possibly the hardest case of all”
May bear no relation to Thief 4.

    I agree with @9. I think it’s Murdered, not Thief 4…

@8 I wrote the piece, Thief 4 has not been formally announced. Moving on.

@9 & 10 yeah you’re probably right here. I’ll amend to say its Murdered. I was without coffee this morning it seems ;)

You can insist to the contrary and tell me to move on until you’re blue in the face, but I’m sorry, I don’t know what more can be done to convince you that Thief 4, an announced project, isn’t an unannounced project. If you like, I will show you a hundred external links saying this is the case. It is OK with me if you didn’t Google the subject before submitting the article, thinking the game is still purely a thing of rumor, or simply made a Freudian slip, but I won’t be deluded on the meaning and definition of the English words “formally announced”.

Had to register here just to settle this ridiculousness (is that a word?):

Here’s Thief 4 announcement being confirmed by Rene, an ex-Eidos employee almost four years ago on the TTLG forums:

    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126564

And…here’s a link to the development page on Eidos Montreal’s official website:

    http://www.eidosmontreal.com/teams/tf

And here’s Eidos Montreal’s twitter feed page, which mentions the “upcoming Thief game (Thief4.com):

    https://twitter.com/eidosmontreal

Hmm, look here, Eidos has a job board, and they’ve posted positions related to Thief 4. It’s pretty tough to only be “rumored as in-development” when you’re posting jobs for the game on your official site:

    http://www.eidosmontreal.com/jobs

Finally, of course, the official site of the game, run by Eidos Montreal:

    http://www.thief4.com

I think it’s safe to say the game has been announced, Mr. Cook. Get your facts straight. Moving right along…
