Destiny won’t release in 2013, Activision confirms

Monday, 18th February 2013 16:38 GMT By Dave Cook

Destiny was given the reveal treatment by developer Bungie last night, but publisher Activision has just confirmed that the game won’t release in 2013.

IGN reports that a press release sent out by Activision debunked all speculation that the game would launch in 2013.

The release states that Destiny is not included in Activision’s ’2013 outlook’ and that “there should be no speculation or expectation of a different result”.

Brenna has written a cracking round-up of everything you need to know about Destiny here, and I wrote a blog this morning about the scant nature of the reveal, and the fan backlash that followed it.

What’s your take on the game so far?

Seems like it would be a waste of time supporting current gen then as the memory limitations would just harm all platforms if they also had to support PS360.

Supporting this gen will help it pull in a lot more sales. Not everyone is going to throw their consoles out the window and buy next gen at full price.

Got to think of the long term if you are making a game as big as they claim. Plus, I think the console uptake for PS4 and 720 will be faster than previous if (big IF) MS/Sony get the price right because people know they are coming and they want them a whole lot.

Wow, Why show it now??? Whats the point. I mean by the looks of it it will probably be released end of 2014…

And it seems to have all potential to be a title that gets delayed over and over again…

Was really interested but now… I feel kinda joked on with this whole “reveal”. To me they showed a concept of a game, the game itself is far away…

Exactly. But it was promoted as a huge “reveal”. And no one was expecting that this was all they had.

That was actually the first thing that came to mind after watching the ViDoc. Most of it is concept art and the glimpse of actual gameplay looked really rough. I bet it gets delayed once the official date will be touted at E3. December 2014 earliest. A game of this scale isn’t developed in three years.

I’m backpaddeling on the three years. It’s actually in the making since Halo ODST! https://mobile.twitter.com/Rhyd1z3L_/status/274062850899709952/photo/1
