Sunday, 17th February 2013 18:15 GMT By Sam Clay

Finally Bungie has unveiled some info on Destiny in the form of a classic ViDoc, which is viewable after the break.

There is still no official word on when Destiny will come out, but we know it’s headed to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and “future generation technology”.

Pretty sure the reason we had 90% concept art is because they can’t show too much footage of next gen consoles yet. What we did see is probably running on PC’s, like MGS Ground Zeroes (also a next gen game, trust me).

If it was coming out on current consoles, they would have just said so, and they would have alot more footage to show if it was coming out this october like rumored.

I like the artwork, but as always I won’t get excited until I’ve seen gameplay. Some of the actual in-engine stuff we saw the visuals aren’t the best, though of course that’s a very harsh thing to say on the very little we viewed

Don’t expect visuals amped up in a wide scale multiplayer.
Nice idea if magic is going to play a part within gameplay and the story. I hope there will a big reveal at E3.

Bungie already said its coming out on this gen and from what is shown it doesn’t even use DX11. I am sure they will probably do a release for next gen as well but what they had shown was definitely capable in current gen as far as the looks go.

I don’t know, felt pretty underwhelming, i want to see some gameplay. So i’m a bit confused because of a lack of a clear answer, is this an MMOFPS?

    Boring.

If you don’t have anything to show: Don’t show it.

This is nothing but empty PR Talk. No gameplay, not even a CGI-Trailer. And honestly the artworks look mediocre. We’ve seen it all before. What I dislike the most is how shallow and empty looking the cities are.

Haven’t they learned anything with Halo? Maybe they should take a look at the Killzone games.

Well this definitely sounds a like a mmo. Activision been looking for a way to charge its players a monthly subscription, this may be their lucky game to the trick.

Is it me or did the little gameplay they did show look like Halo?

    #8 1 year ago
  9. NocturnalB

Yeah it was pretty reminiscent of Halo but i expected that much, i also expected an actual trailer and basic clear black and white explanation, i guess i expected too much.

    Wow, few things.

First, the backstory is dangerously Halo. Alien race wipes you out and your saved by this one thing. Yeah.

Second, graphics look terrible. I understand its early, but I’m already thinking its a set back from Halo:Reach.

Lastly, I really hope there’s no class locking down or anything. I actually like switching between classes freely, trying them out, more of a jack of all trades master of none approach than the classic MMO one.

And, Activision will push for monetisation. Don’t know how, but Diablo, WOW, COD (elite), etc are all monetised for a return. This will no doubt be the same.

    I’m totally sold and excited.

@2 you can already pre-order the game on current gen consoles

@10 it will be free from subscriptions

MMOs tend to look bland. I hate MMOs. I want an exiting singleperson experience. Thing is, it’s Bungie and Bungie delivers always. And they have Marty, who makes the best game soundtracks out there. So yes actual gameplay footage would be nice, that clunky concept art and those in-engine shots where really rough.

Not hyped at all…the little we can see looks ok. But if it’s just a other fps wrapped up in a story that appeals to children me personally am going to get bored fast.

Getting my hopes up that Bungie makes a “adult” fps is probably just fooling myself.

  14. Erthazus

If this is a MMO it looks pretty decent for a MMO.

If this is the current gen/next gen stand alone title with social stuff then it looks crap as always. I don’t remember a single Bungie game that looked good because they don’t know how to do it.

Bungie trailers is nothing more then stupid hype. The last videos reminded me of Halo. So now it’s not just a Tribes/quake/Unreal rip off. It’s going to be a rip off of their old game.

    True story. LOL.

  15. Hcw87

Yeah, because there’s so many other FPS/MMO hybrids out allready on consoles. Oh wait.

Defiance is coming out in April though, which comes close to the same genre, but it’s 3rd person and alot more traditional MMO.

    #15 1 year ago
  16. Erthazus

    @15,
“Yeah, because there’s so many other FPS/MMO hybrids out allready on consoles. Oh wait.”

So what? Does not mean it’s something special.

also, there are FPS/MMO hybrids on a console. It’s called DUST 514 from CCP just for example. Don’t let me start about PC.

    #16 1 year ago
  17. Hcw87

DUST 514 is a straight up competitive shooter in a big online world, like Planetside 2. Not like Destiny at all, where you have ”PvE” stuff to do aswell as player on player stuff.

  18. Erthazus

    http://kotaku.com/5984648/everything-i-know-about-bungies-next-first+person-shooter-destiny

So it’s a F2P game with raids? Someone had conversation with Blizzard a lot.

    @Hcw87,
“DUST 514 is a straight up competitive shooter in a big online world, like Planetside 2. Not like Destiny at all, where you have ”PvE” stuff to do aswell as player on player stuff.”

does not change the fact that there are games on a console that are MMOFPS’s. On the PC’s side PVE MMO’s with PvP aspect are fucking everywhere from WarZ, Firefall, Survarium to other niche mmo’s. Nothing new.

If you were thinking of applicable criteria under which you actually get to see the game: One to put a line through – Being Adam Sessler don’t cut it! https://twitter.com/AdamSessler/status/303219718452543488 “So, went to see “Destiny” Didn’t see it, was told about it being awesome”

    #19 1 year ago
  20. Hcw87

Again, why be so secretive if it’s just going to release on current consoles. I don’t get it.

    #20 1 year ago
  21. mathare92

Even after watching that, I still don’t know what Destiny really is.

MMO-FPS? MMO-RPG? Another Halo with new levels of social integration? Something like DUST514? A point and click adventure?

    #21 1 year ago
  22. Erthazus

Bungie’s engineering lead, Chris Butcher, immediately debunked the MMO theory when he took the stage on Wednesday afternoon to tell us about all the new technology used in the game. In fact, it’s so far from an MMO, he implied, that they’ve coined a new term for this game. You can call it

“the world’s first shared world shooter,”

to the crying protest of games like DayZ. (c) Kotaku

Okay. It’s DayZ/WarZ/Survarium in Space where you can also use your smartphone to communicate with players “Battle.net in World Of Warcraft” with raids “World Of Warcraft”.

Simple as that and nothing new. I’m out.

P.S. It’s probably going to have “Server rental” feature with F2P elements from WarZ where you can buy AMMO or medicine/Food/melee weapons and so on.

    @21
If you read the previews you’d know. It’s not an MMO where you go up to NPC’s and get quests to kill 20 zombies, then go back and turn it in. I guess you can compare it to Halo with other players.

    #23 1 year ago
  24. YoungZer0

“the world’s first shared world shooter,”

    … so it’s a MMOFPS.

My god the negativity on show over a fleeting glimpse of the game is disheartening. At least wait until we see more before sticking the boot in :/

    #25 1 year ago
  26. mathare92

@23 I did read the preview on Eurogamer (though Wesley sounded just as confused in the beginning of his article) and I’ll read more.

But really, the one video they put out should offer something a little more concrete than this sort of grand conceptual jargon. I shouldn’t have to read a preview to get a solid idea of what your game is about.

@25 You should read the comments on the EG piece. :)

@25, Dave – Activision Blizzard is historically bad. I don’t see why having a “air on the side of caution until we see something solid” approach rubs you up the wrong way :P

I mean, the internet has jaded us all.

@11: I said monetisation. Not subscriptions. But even then, that might change over the development. We’ll see.

  29. Phoenixblight

    @28

Historically bad? they have the number 1; FPS,MMO,RTS in sales. Sorry but I don’t see Activision treating Bungle like their studios that are making games like Dead Pool, Walking Dead or Prototype.

  30. SplatteredHouse

@25: Senior Editor of Yahoo Games tweeted, (indirectly) expanding on Sessler’s post: “They had press in their HQ for 6 hours, which included a Q&A that was mostly ‘no comments’. And zero gameplay.”

REALLY. I feel bad for the folk who turned out/put other commitments aside to show up at this thing on their days off.

Sure does seem like a lot of negativity for what amounts to nothing more than a basic concept. Well I liked halo well enough, and this looks to be right up my favorite sci-fi, power armor, save the world, alley so I’m interested. Unfortunately I can’t see it getting optimized very well on PS3 and I’m not about to get ripped off for live subscription but still, if they bring to PC I’ll buy it. Not interested in forking over cash for the “next gen” joke-boxes either, it’s PC or nothing if they want my money.

If it’s some kind of online thing I’m not interested.

Ripped off for live subscription? 40 dollars a year is a ripoff? If that’s something you can’t afford, you should look at your priorities.

  39. _LarZen_

@25: I think people are starting to expect something more…something new.

And when a big company like Bungie shows what at first glance is just a other fps that require online connectivity all the time and everyone knows Activision/Bungie will push microtransactions like a cow with a udder that is about to explode people just….

    Well get angry, and disappointed.

Personally I don’t blame them, im sick and tired of these braindead games myself. And especially this new trend with microtransactions..something that is for sure to explode in a game like this.

And that there is no “real” news…it’s just Bungie using the gaming sites to advertise and create hype.

    I’m still optimistic about Destiny.

Bungie know gunplay and they know AI, plus Halo was always at it’s best in co-op IMO.

A party-and-class based co-op Bungie shooter sounds pretty rockin’ still.

Would be insane if we saw a live demo of this at the PS Meeting. Destiny looks so ambitious, I’m fascinated. Sorry for the PC community though.

I have much respect for Bungie but it seems that they are confusing the people with this first ViDoc. Well, they have their media attention, if that was step one in their marketing plan. I defenitely buy everything from Bungie but I wont pre-order it for 360 because I will play it on the next-gen consoles. Wuld be nice if the next ViDoc is a bit more revealing also gameplay wise.

Awkward to try and pass it off like the worlds first persistent world shooter.

    Planetside happened a decade ago.

  48. Joe_Gamer

@38 Hcw87: Oh I CAN afford it, I make more than most honestly, but just because I can doesn’t mean I should. Multi-player in PS2:free, dreamcast:free, Gamecube:free, PS3:free, Wii:free, Wii-U:free….PC:Not just free but better in every way.

It is currently the only online gaming service that charges users a fee to play multi-player gaming. It’s even worse for me because I’m a network admin, did you know that 90-95% of all console multi-player activity is PEER-TO-PEER, my xbox talks to your xbox over the net connections we already pay for. Matchmaking and some QoS are the only things M$ servers handle, oh and delivering all that advertising. Far as I can tell, M$ are charging you for the privilege of having them show you commercials for their products….

Vote with your wallets as they say and there is no way I’m gonna support shit like this with my money.

I call that getting swindled and pimped
I call that getting tricked by a business.
    (as the kids might say)

You can’t chat with people crossgame on PSN, and you have long maintenance several times a month.

That alone makes it worth paying for XBL.
