Need For Speed: Most Wanted Wii U trumps PS3 & Xbox 360 build, says Criterion
Need For Speed: Most Wanted is hitting Wii U in March 14th, and the developer has confirmed that it will trump the PS3 and Xbox 360 build in the technical department. It’s based on the PC version, you see?
In a video interview with GamesRadar, Criterion’s Alex Ward explained that the game pulls on many of the PC version’s enhanced features, such as more-detailed assets, increased draw distance and improved lighting. Ward says its down to the Wii U’s increased memory over its fellow formats.
You can watch the full video here for more details.
Thanks Siliconera.

Obvious statement is obvious.
It would be seriously bad that a 6 months old console can’t trump 7 years old hardware.
Also 4 more months of development to optimize.
Silly PR speech…
In other news…6 days until WiiU loses its purpose.

Developer makes unprovable (and undisprovable) statement about whatever they’re selling next at no cost to that which they’ve already sold.
Moving on…

It’s good to see developers start to exploit the extra muscle of the WiiU.
Memory really has been the most limiting aspect of the 360 and especially the PS3.
As the WiiU’s extra memory gets used more we will see WiiU versions of games accelerate away from the previous gen versions.

I’m happy to wait for Wii U games if they’re actually being enhanced.
This is actually quite positive about the future of the console.

Sorry, what? That’s the same Digital Foundry that said “we can now, categorically, finally rule out any next-gen pretensions for the Wii U”

That Digital Foundry, yeah?

Incidentally, PS3 and 360 are now last gen consoles.

If this were another developer (Gearbox springs to mind) I’d dismiss this as PR fluff. Criterion’s track record is exemplary, however, so I’ll take this at face value. We already know the game is fun so what’s not to like?
.
This is good for existing Wii U owners.

Oh there’s no way Wii U is next generation, I’d call it a new generation Nintendo machine though.
I’m very interested in what developers can come up with once the 360 and PS3 have been layed to rest, that’s when we’ll see exclusives by default and hopefully some creative CPU/GPU work arounds – hopefully, anyway!

Nah man, when we say “next-gen”, we mean PS4 and Xbox 720.
Wii U is in the same performance bracket as “current-gen” systems, the PS3 and Xbox 360.

@15 A lot of people don’t seem to understand what a console generation means. It’s not about anyone’s opinion or what Digital Foundry says. The Wii U, like the PS4 and the next Xbox, is an 8th generation console. It’s in the same generation. Period.
If you have brothers or sisters, they’re in the same generation as you. How they dress or act has nothing to do with it.
So yes, Wii U may be in the same performance bracket as the last gen consoles, but it’s still a current gen console. That’s all I’m saying.

Yep, that’s the way I’ll continue to be saying it. Wii was gen 7, WiiU is gen 8. Power is irrelevant.

That’s why I didn’t say “8th generation”.
Next generation is a colloquial term used to describe a big leap in performance.
Sure, Wii is an “8th generation” console, but it’s no more “next-gen” than the Wii was when it was released.

Seriously? makes me laugh.. the PS3 and 360 are over 6 freaking years old and still look just like the WII U, what point are they trying to make here?
Wii have allways been 5 years behind everything, there is no “muscle” behind that box…

Wii U is current generation. ‘Gen 8′ with the PS4 and Xbox 720. Power is irrelevant.
And can we at least wait and see how multiplat games look across the PS4, Xbox 720, and Wii U before we discuss how Weak the Wii U is. Honesty if every developer maxes out next generation games on Wii U, every game should look better than Unhcarted or Killzone 3. I would not call that weak.
