Age of Wonders 3′s “big partner” is none other than Markus “Notch” Persson

Triumph’s partner in the development of Age of Wonders 3 is none other than Markus “Notch” Persson, the firm’s co-owner Lennart Sas has revealed to Eurogamer.

Thought to possibly be in development with Epic when the game was announcedlast week, Sas has since spilled the beans on the game’s main benefactor.

“We had a demo for Age of Wonders 3 and talked to various parties including traditional publishers,” Sas told the site. “There was certainly interest but the prospect of having Notch help fund was a dream come true, as he’s a fan of the game and didn’t insist on owning it like many of the publishers do these days when they fund development.

“It certainly didn’t happen overnight, and he kept a healthy business sense towards the project. His biggest concern was that it would cost him a lot of time, so it helped that we made this sort of game before and were at an advanced stage of development.”

Sas said he approached Notch on the project after seeing a “random title-screen blurb” mentioning Age of Wonders in Minecraft.

Age of Wonders 3 is slated for a fall release on PC, with plans for a Mac version, and possibly a tablet version later on.

Kudos to Notch. Didn’t play AoW2 much but original has a really special place in my heart.

Notch does it again – that man knows how to bring smiles on peoples faces. It’ll be many decades before we will see someone like Notch, and someone like Mojang, again – and even then, I doubt it will be at a scale comparable to Notch and Mojang.
