Infinity Blade: Dungeons put “on hold,” Impossible Studios being closed

Friday, 8th February 2013 19:46 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Infinity Blade: Dungeons has been put “on hold,” and the developer of the third entry in the series, Impossible Studios, is being shuttered according to Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney.

Impossible Studios was formed in August after Epic hired on former members of Big Huge Games after its collapse.

“When former members of Big Huge Games approached Epic last year, we saw the opportunity to help a great group of people while putting them to work on a project that needed a team,” said Sweeney today in a statement. “It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn’t working out for Epic.

“In addition to providing Impossible Studios employees with three months of severance pay, we’ll be giving the team the opportunity to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and the awesome Impossibear logo. This means that Infinity Blade: Dungeons is now on hold as we figure out the future of the project.”

In October, Epic announced Infinity Blade: Dungeons would miss its targeted 2012 release. The game was announced alongside iPad 2.

Thanks, Shack.

    @1 Same here, I was actually expecting an awesome new ARPG to come from this studio with Epic’s resources.

    The studio wasn’t producing results. I am surprised that Epic gave them 6 months while missing a few deadlines.

    This is an odd one.
    I always thought the ‘Dungeons’ crew was staffed by Chair. Then they take on the KoA team? Then they shutter them?
    Not exactly good business sense is it?

    @9 and @10

    They gave the team a project to make a game. Mobile games have a very short turn around for development. They didn’t produce anything so they get fired. Its just like any other business. You go to work to produce results you fail to produce anything you get fired. They should be thankful that Epic was nice enough to give them severance pay.

    That sucks a lot.

    @12 Keep wishing, for I’d like to see the same thing. Anyway, I’m kinda baffled at this. What was the point of opening Impossible studio in the first place if it wasn’t even gonna be open six months later? My heart goes out to those affected by the Impossible’s closure, really hope everything works out for them.
