Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 won't have microtransactions

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 won't see the return of the much-criticised Course Mastery system.

"We’ve taken that system out and are using a more traditional DLC approach," franchise director Mike DeVault told IGN.

Course Mastery allowed players to unlock extra courses by slowly earning points - or pay a fee to access them instantly. It didn't go down well.

The new version will feature 20 courses as standard, an increase from the 16 of last year's, and additional DLC courses won't be available except as DLC purchases - so you're not paying to unlock content on disc, presumably.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is due on March 26 in North America and on March 28 in Europe, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A new video showing off the sports sim's Legends of the Majors was released this week.
