US senator: games more problematic than guns, "affect" people

Tennessee Republican senator Lamar Alexander has said that "video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people". He was responding to a question from MSNBC about the possibility of background checks when guns are sold in the US. You can watch the whole segment through the break.

No peer-reviewed study has ever found a causative connection between gaming and violence, but in the wake of tragedies like last year's Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, violence in entertainment media is often blamed. After meeting with games industry representatives, US vice president Joe Biden put forward a plan to reduce gun crime in the US which made no mention of games at all.
