Volition’s potential buyers included EA, Take-Two, Warner, Ubisoft – report

Volition had six potential buyers at the ready before being nabbed by Koch Media, according to the developer’s general manager, Dan Cermak.

Speaking with Illinois-based The News Gazette, Cermak said EA, Koch, Take-Two, Warner, Ubisoft, and an unnamed Chicago group visited the studio prior to the THQ sale.

Out of the six, only Koch and Ubisoft submitted bids for Volition, with Koch snagging the Saint’s Row developer for $22.3 million, which doesn’t include the Red Faction franchise. Ubisoft bid $5.4 million.

All 185 Volition employees are to remain with the company, but the firm may be known as Deep Silver Volition once the ink on the papers dry. It’s just one of the names being mulled around for the developer at the moment, Cermak said.

Deep Silver Volition? I picture someone is already frantically working on a “DSV” logo.

@2 “…which doesn’t include the Red Faction franchise” — no one bought it. It along with Dark Siders are in limbo.

As long as Saints Row 4 comes out… doesn’t change anything to me.
