Xbox 360 lifetime sales set to catch Wii in UK

Xbox 360 sales in the UK look set to overtake the Wii. According to GFK Chart-Track, Microsoft’s console was just 200,000 units behind at the end of December, having outsold Nintendo’s product by over four times in 2012.

Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 remain the highest sellers in the UK. These are followed by the Wii and Xbox 360 in third and fourth respectively. Before Christmas, Nintendo confirmed 8 million consoles had shifted in the UK. Will 2013 finally be the year Microsoft topples its nearest UK sales competitor?

The Wii is still comfortable on a global scale. A total of 97 million Wii’s had been sold by September 2012, compared to 70 million Xbox 360 consoles (October 2012) and 70 million PS3′s (November 2012).

Cheers to CVG for the data.

Well obviously. 360 will topple it in a few months.
Congrats to them.

Everytime Xbox achieves something, I die a little.

Say what you want but is pretty great to see all of them with great numbers overall nintendo with 97 million, and 70 million for the other two, this is more healthy than the previous gen which was aprox sony 120 million versus 20+ for the other two each one, of course sony did loose some market share, and the other two increased, but seeing the trend for upcoming generations this is a great sign, that all of them will make good numbers, personally i dont care which one wins, i just want them all to succeed, like they did this gen.

MS has got the UK locked down;

It’s because all we want to do is play Fifa, Call of Duty then watch streamed reality TV shows and Black Eyed Peas music videos with our consoles.

That’s curious. Only a week or two ago I read comments from people stating how insignificant this sort of thing is so late in the generation and how little it means as a result.

Wow this says a lot about the Wii. Nintendo should have just released the Wii U in 06″. They’ve had great success with Wii but the Wii U could have been such a great comeback story in Nintendo history.

Seraphemz! :D and JM you’re right, but you should have waited to say that until the other (well known) 360 supporters commented ;)

Wonder how many dead 360′s make up those figures. I bet it’s a fucking lot.

@12: Why would you buy one in a shop when you can get a free repair or replacement from Microsoft?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure some people would but it seems a bit of a stupid way to do it.

@13 not when it comes to the U.S. market. People who did have the extra cash still shipped out their units after they already went and bought a core model replacement. They just slapped on their hard drives from the broken one.
