Apple will release a 128GB iPad 4 starting next week

Tuesday, 29th January 2013 14:00 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Apple has announced it will offer a 128GB version of the iPad 4 with Retina Display starting next week in the US on February 5.

“With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs,” said Philip Schiller, SVP Worldwide Marketing in the press release.

“With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”

The tablet contains a 9.7-inch Retina display, Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTimeHD camera, iOS 6.1 and support for additional LTE networks around the world.

You can pick it up in black or white for $799 with wi-fi and the 4G model will run you $929.

A UK date and price wasn’t mentioned in the press release.

Really? iPad 4? When did they release a 3? =/

I’d rather stick with the orignal iPad, or maybe the iPad 2. Heck, even the iPad Mini is more than enough for me.

I currently use a 64GB iPhone 4S and I can’t get it past 50GB of usage, so what in the world are you going to do with a 128GB device?

    iPad 5 is already a thing, apparently…

    Thinner, with less bezel.

@1: Fill it with stuff that you bought on the App Store, of course!

@2 Great! More unwanted page-flicking in iBooks then as they make it more and more difficult not to touch the screen. Yawn.

And they say price is everything!

I mean shit… $800 for a walled-garden tablet. Who in their right fucking mind?!

People go on about the cost of the Vita, but it’s less than a quarter of the cost.

I know they’re not really comparable, I just can’t believe people buy these things (and for what – surfing the net on the sofa?) get the fuck out of here.

INB4 comments turn into corporate-fanboy bullshit.

New Apple product to launch 6 months after the previous iteration, and in other news, bear faeces found in woods and pope confirmed as catholic.
Its shiny and it’ll sell like hot cakes, but you have to hate that they clearly sold the iPad 3 as ‘the bestest ever shiny fondle slab’ knowing full well that development and production of this was already in full swing.

    @Deacon,
    +1
Apple is the epitome of shitty pricing for average goods right now. Vita right now is more powerful than any device in sub 450-400 range. For a 250$ device, that’s mindboggling.

$929? I just don’t get it…and people will actually buy this shit. They will starve and work more hours and sacrifice to be able to buy one…..1! :(

and Ken Kuturagi said he would hope people would do the same for a $599 console that was way ahead of its time back in 2006 and still to this day is a great piece of home entertainment tech….its mind boggling man.

@7 & 8 – Exactly. People will eat this shit up and yet complain about the price of Vita and PS3… its crazy. Almost a grand for a tablet??? thats insane.

See… I can’t believe people will moan about the price of a Surface Pro but then start jumping up and down about how this is “awesome.”

The asking price of a 128GB 4G iPad is perilously close to a MacBook Air: an actual ultrabook. The Surface Pro also acts as an ultrabook with added tablet capabilities.

There’s no way you’d find me paying that price for a 128GB iPad. None.

I’m wondering if the rush announcement of this and the sudden ‘leak’ of ipad 5 information is a desperate attempt to recover the share price situation they’ve found themselves in. They’re not in trouble, but from $700 to £430 per share in 3 months, they needed to get some buzz generated to get people back in love with them.

Spoiler: Go for innovation instead of iteration next time
