Path of Exile open beta servers back online

Path of Exile's open beta has proved popular enough to "absolutely crush" its servers, but Grinding Gears Games has managed to shore up the action RPG.

Grinding Gears Games wasted no time investigating server crashes and has already deployed a fix which should resolve the issue.

The developer hadn't identified the problem pre-launch, as it only became apparent when Path of Exile met with high demand.

"We're getting absolutely crushed under the number of players trying out Path of Exile, and this has manifested as a server crash that has been occurring hourly today," lead developer Chris Wilson wrote on the game's forum.

Wilson said Path of Exile reached 69,850 concurrent players before experiencing crashes.

"Thanks again for your patience, and sorry about these launch issues. It's amazing to see such high demand for the game," he added.

The free-to-play indie effort was also hit by a DDOS attack over the weekend, which was summarily dealt with.

Thanks, PCGamesN.
