Epic Mickey dev Junction Point to close - rumour

Warren Spector's Junction Point is to close, according to industry rumour.

The news comes courtesy of Star Citizen crowdfunding platform Roberts Space Industries.

"Second 21 gun salute for a studio in seven days. Fare-the-well Junction Point. We hope that you all find new studios soon," the team's official Twitter commented.

Thankfully, it seems this goodbye may be somewhat pre-emptive. Roberts Space Industries has since deleted its original tweet, following it up with a correction:

"Our posting about Junction Point was based on a story by My Nintendo News this morning. Cloud Imperium Games has no inside info on their status."

Confusingly, the article Robert Space Industry seems to have indicated cites the deleted tweet.

Additionally, 3D Realms' George Broussard, often the first to break news of closures and lay-offs, said the rumours have been floating around for some time - although this doesn't seem to have convinced him they aren't true.

"The Junction Point rumors have been circulating a while. Warning signs when you give employees two months off after shipping," he said.

We've contacted Disney representatives and are awaiting clarification.

Junction Point was founded in 2005 by Deus Ex designer Warren Spector and colleague Art Min, and immediately took in several other members of the shuttered Ion Storm, John Romero's critically applauded but commercially unsuccessful studio.

The Austin-based company was acquired by Disney Interactive just two years later, and in 2010 released its first game, Epic Mickey. A sequel followed but neither game wowed critics or consumers.
